horrid, horrid job. got to be done. i used wire brush, white spirit, finnegans no.1 rust eating primer and then tekaloid coach enamel. thin coat of waxoyl to finish. (i was lucky though, as previous owner/s had done this before too...so no rot to deal with).

Waxoyle? Why do you guys swear by that stuff so much? It didn't do a darned thing to keep my car rust free despite having an eighth of an inch coating to frustratingly clean off of it.

It's just my humble opinion here, but as far as post-facto coatings go, I think a rubberised asphalt based undercoating would be far superior.

Waxoyle sounds marvelous until you're the poor sod trying to wipe 5 applications in 22 years of it off your frame.

Just my two bits...

primer over bare areas where paint had flaked off and on chassis tubes that were 'patchy' then tekaloid over the lot. thin coat of wax over some vulnerable areas but not a lot as i tend to agree with brap brap that shiny paint is easiest to maintain. wax was mainly used to spray up into higher chassis tubes that cannot be painted (eg above gearbox etc).

Mike....I've been thinking of having the chassis on my Tasmin sprayed with "KROWN". Or "OilGARD".
Any opinion?

Well guys i have just finished treating my chassis after the purchase of my car.Car had grey powder coating still intact.i had two tubes replaced by a friend.Carless jacking by previous owners breaking of powder coating.i used some black wax oil with some old engine oil brushed on with long radiator brush.followed by clear waxoil.followed by underseal with added wax oil which covers better.i think it all comes down to previous owners care or lack of it.had the sills off very good condition .it might not look that pretty. but i know its been treated and will continualy be looked after in my care.................Cheers all Mike
