The engine bay in my '68 Morris Mark 2 was looking a bit tired.

And I was getting a bit frustrated with its 998cc struggling on a single S.U and wheezy peashooter manifold/exhaust set up. Plus the drum brakes were causing me some alarm, well scared me stless on more than occasion yikes And then there was the constant overheating, the sloppy steering not helped by worn out bearings/hubs, the wiring loom that fell apart at the slightest touch, the...well you get the idea so the little blighter was packed off to my not-so-local British car specialist with a long to do list.

Out with the old

Engine bay a bit scruffy but fairly sound.

Bye bye wheezy engine set up. That radiator looked to be the original, completely toast.

Lick of paint and looking better.

New manifold and ally radiator with tropical fan, prior to new Cooper S disc set up being fitted.

Rebuilt HS'2s

And then 8 weeks and several bills later.....Voila!

What a difference, very chuffed with how is turned out. Sounds better, goes better, stops better. Next job is to find a 12G295 head and get it ported. While the 1275 route is the obvious path to more power the purist in me wants to stay with the original small bore unit that came with the car and keep all the enhancments in period as it were.

Thanks for looking.

Nice job. How do you find those suspension springs over cones?

To be honest the srings were on the car when I bought it and the last Mini I owned was 20 years ago so I don't have much to compae it with I'm afraid. The PO told me that he fitted the blue springs for a more compliant ride - he thought the reds would be too firm bearng in mind how bad the road surfaces are in New York/New Jersey. It certainly steers and handles better, new rack, uprated steering arms and tie bars playing a part.

Nice one. Where'e the best place for "engine green"?

I have an engine bay waiting for TLC and an engine needing "green" and a rebuild.

My guy got the paint from Moss Motors here in the US. Its called 'Olive Green Engine Paint' and the Moss stock# is 220-580.

In the UK DSN or Somerford should be able to help.

The original BMC engine green is just ordinary Land Rover Bronze Green. I buy it from my local paint factors who can supply it in 2-pack, celulose or brushing synthetic.

Im amazed. I saw the first picture and thought "Nice job!" Only to find that was the 'before' picture!? haha
Really, It didn't look bad to begin with at all. Still, was obviously a good opportunity for some upgrades. Looks like a great Mini smile

P,
