Upgrades Vs change it

I keep reading these threads for group buys etc and so far have not done much.

Mine is a bog standard GTO-3 and I guess worth in the low 20's.

Now if I upgrade it what am I going to do?

Gearbox £1K?
Exhaust £1.5K?
Actuators + remap £1K
Intercooler £750
Front brakes £500

Thats best part of 5K without the heartache

Would I not be better to buy a 3R for high 20's, and would it probably have all these things sorted

In a word, NO.
Most 3R's have the 6spd gearbox but they are no more reliable than the 5spd's as the 5th gear has often broken on those too.
Everything else you quote is the same on the 3R as it is on the GT03.
If you're happy with the car you've got, why chop it in for a 3R unless you really want different headlights?

i disagree

modifying cars is not for everyone - if you want to buy one that is already sorted and it is the right money - then go for it

but you will miss the car like mad when you sell it

If your car is the in good condition then modify it to make is unique to you. Mine was originally a GTO-3 but is far from it now!

All depends on what you want from your car. If you do track days then the mods may aid reliability,
however,if you are content with a stonking road car then stay as you are.

I have, and have not bothered with any "mods". That's six year on from new and is still as good as when I drove out of the showroom. (Dealers hate mods anyhow so it does not effect prices)

Not all "mods" are for performance, some are aesthetical.

to be fair i think most of those mods will add value to either a GT03 or a 3R , the gearbox mod is a big upgrade and probably the most important mod if you want good reliability ,front brakes are a natural upgrade when the std ones wear out and the intercooler mod is well recommended on the forum so again will add value .

Exhaust is again a natural upgrade the cars are getting to an age where they will need replaceing and as for more power ........well its just got to be done :-)

You never get your money back, the trade generally rub their nose at modded cars(but maybe not so much in Nobles case as the dealers know the cars can be improved on).If you've got itchy feet, sell yours privately and look for a good modded car, but be warned it took me 9 months to find a good 400 after selling my 3R and that period was not a hapy one!

Still think a well modded GT03 would be worth more than a std 3R ,after all in std form there are pretty major issues !!!and as far as i can tell the only difference between a gt03 and a 3R are the headlights .

Standard form is plenty adequate for many, isn't "pretty major issues " a little dramatic? Yes they can go wrong/ break from time to time but for its ilk they're pretty good really.Certainly both mine and (certainly the 400) have been more reliable than the "supposed" premium brands we've had in the family.

don,t think you can class the M400 in my quote ,its the pinicle of Noble ownership and also has had more development on it to sort out the issues .

was refering mainly too GT03 and 3R .......just lately there seems to be more than a few major issues ...although my own car has been great for 5000 miles !!! :-)

Done 20k miles in my GT03 and it's still going strong with only minor maintenance issues which relate to all nobles ( poor exhaust , wear on seat bulsters etc).
I like the gt03r leather seats and headlights, but then I also like my lights and equally expensive alacar seats so I'd never pay a premium for these.... R's are newer which is the main reason to buy them IMO.... I'd your gona upgrade get the M400 as that's an improvement dynamically as well.

Personally I'd modify yours tho, things like the exhaust and a remap will transfor the car beyond an R'r instanly

the gto3 is lighter due to less soundproofing - the lights on the 3r are probably nicer looking but mist up

most 3r have 6 speed box

i think the 3r has a different steering wheel
