How much are you all paying for gas and electricity? I am paying £180 a month for a 4 bedroom semi. It seems excessive to me.

For both?

I think £300 or so. 5 Bed detached and an OH who thinks 20c is a tad chilly.

A ball park way to check, take a reading exactly 24hrs apart. The elec meter shows kWh, so just times this by your rate .. if you have primary and secondary tariff, use the lower number.

Gives a rough cost per day ...

I am with British Gas, price fix to Dec 2009

Cost, inc VAT are 25.48p and 10.68p per kWh

£84/month electric. Got a £350 refund last year though.

One tank of oil (1000l) per year. This varies a lot, the last tank was about £320.

Detached four bed bungalow.

For the last quarter the bill was £40/gas & £130/leccy. Electric stays roughly the same throught the year (mrs works from home & cooker is a halogen hob) but last year the gas bill for Dec-Mar rose to just over £200...

Three bed end of terrace on British Gas Click Energy 5

..just to add I now never pay by direct debit as the theives at the energy companies like to adjust the dd payment based on figures pulled out of a hat and the next thing you know is £££'s have gone from your bank account. I usually wait for the red bill and pay it then smile

I suggest you have a look at Uswith.com as it would seem your BG rates are a tad excessive.

If your paying by DD call these fkers and give them your meter readings.

Im with NPower, just had a bill, i pay £120 fixed, they wanted to increase it to £180 a month. I called them up and asked why, confirmed my meter readings which were as per their estimates. Hey presto, you only need to pay £115 a month now.

Where did the £180 come from? These companies charge DD customers whatever they want, and most pay it. for the person that started this post, i would scrutinize what you are paying as it seems a lot of money.

Thieving gits, i've just gone onto a comparison site and switched to E.on. £300 a year saving.

4 Bed flat, 4 occupants sharing, currently a £237/m DD.

They whinge to me about this, as I do the flat accounts so am of course fully responsible for the price of energy. I point out they should try turning the fking lights/computers/TV's etc etc etc off once in a while.

confused

I'm with ScottishPower. Uswitch has suggested, for the last six months, that I switch to E-on.

Do you think that Uswitch is running a scam on us all? hehe
