It'll soon have the same value as a A* GCSE.

What the hell did he do to deserve that?

Talk about 'Grade inflation'; they'll be handing these out like Arts degrees next week.

No other worthy alternative?.

I could understand if he had served his time and made "a difference", but not less than a year in the job!!!

I must admit I cant really think of any world leader, statesman or woman at present who would be worthy.

Iran opening up for inspection? North Korea coming back to negotiate?

"the Peace Prize is to go to whoever "shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses".

I think a US President who stands up and genuinely calls for a global reduction in nuclear weapons is something to be celebrated. He gained unanimous approval for his recent resolution at the UN security council calling on nuclar states to scrap their weapons. Bit of a contrast with the last one who just wanted to invade everywhere....

Gosh. I thought he had the nobel prize, not the peace one.

Either way, the fact that gore has one makes a mockery of the thing. The guy is a fool and his "science" has little credibility. Who did he sweet talk? biggrin

Reagan called for that.

Slightly different but none the less relevant I agree. Reagan negotiated an arms reduction with Gorbachev which lead to a bi lateral agreement (INF treaty) which was absolutely commendable. Obama seems to be calling for a total illimination of nukes.

I'd say that IS of note.

This is ridiculous. I'm still favourably inclined towards him, but he hasn't even got close to deserving this yet. Faute de mieux, I suppose - it's difficult to think of anyone who deserves it this year.

Reagan called for that.
but wasn't Raygun also the one that initiated the "star wars" arms race (MAD doesn't work if the AD isn't M, although the policy worked out in the end for economic reasons), worked to destabilise communist countries by funding rebel factions (hardly peaceful, if justified in e.g. Afghanistan), invading small defenseless counties (Grenada) because a power struggle meant the had a government he didn't like. It seems to me there are plenty of good reasons not to give Reagan the Nobel peace prize that don't (yet) apply to Obama.
