Not me of course some weirdy ecomentalist weirdo in work. She has children as well. Now surely this is some sort of child cruelty, those kids are going to be bullied to within an inch of their lives because of their strange mother.
Whilst you are probably speaking the truth, isn't is sad that we think they will get bullied? Or sad that people will bully for this?Strangely enough, I was brought up without one. Didn't get one in fact until I was in my 20's. People at school thought it was wierd, I'd get things like 'you don't know what you're missing', to which the obvious answer is, 'so why should I worry about what I don't know'.
It's not that bad actually, we were outside pretty for pretty much most of our childhood, playing with soap box carts, mopeds/old motorbikes, doing stupid things on BMX's, all that kind of stuff.
TV's mostly rubbish anyway (and I say that when it's my job), I hardly watch it even now, although spend far too much time online (but my excuse is that I don't have a garage or suitable car project at the moment).

Child abuse? Rubbish.
Not for any ecolovironmentalismical reasons, but I could live quite happily without a TV, and I don't think kids would suffer much from it either. We had a TV when I was a kid but I hardly watched it, and didn't get bullied as a result.
Better that than having the TV constantly on in the background dominating the house to the exclusion of conversation.

How old are you though? we didn't get a tv till I was 16, no one mentioned it, quite a few other kids faimilys didn't have them or couldn't afford them either. It's not that bad actually, we were outside pretty for pretty much most of our childhood, playing with soap box carts, mopeds/old motorbikes, doing stupid things on BMX's, all that kind of stuff.

Only thing I ever felt like i missed out on was starwars, I watched them all for the first time when they were remastered and rereleased at the cinema. I'd have loved that as a kid, missed out on it completely.

What's her reason for not having one? Some kind of twisted reasoning that makes her think she's a better parent or the belief that there genuinely is nothing good on?
WE went to stay with some friends who haven't had a TV all of their married lives.
They have four kids ranging from 22 to 12 and the kids are a real pleasure to be with. Polite, intelligent and well informed.
My Dad (a TV engineer) used to say that all man's inventions were time saving devices; then came television.
When you think about it, what good comes of sitting watching TV? Its mostly crap!

I shall be 36 in a couple of weeks. Virtually everyone I knew had a TV in the 80's. I did get to watch things like Starwars and Rambo though, just popped over the road to my mate's house. Same with Knightrider and the A-Team. Staple viewing for a 10 - 12 year old kid back then!Only thing I ever felt like i missed out on was starwars, I watched them all for the first time when they were remastered and rereleased at the cinema. In fairness, sometimes I was made to feel like a bit of an outsider, but wasn't bullied for it particularly (I'd just get picked on in other ways, but that seemed to be part of growing up really, most kids would have some weak point that the rest would exploit in some way).
I'd imagine nowadays that you could get away without a TV due to the internet, assuming of course that kids all have computers and internet access (which of course, they may not).

Yep. Sod the environment. I'd rather my kids spent quality time with me than become orphans to the TV. For too many kids, the TV has become their babysitter and Britain is worse off for it.Not for any ecolovironmentalismical reasons, but I could live quite happily without a TV, and I don't think kids would suffer much from it either.
