There has been so much attention to detail in the sympathetic rebuild of my car, I cannot describe in detail all that has been done. Sympathetic in my case means only fix what really needs to be fixed. Here are some photographs of the chassis about to go back into the body.
The wheels are for sale on ebay -
Any queries, please shout.

Looking very good there Henry hope the body goes on smoothly and your back out on the open road real soon.
By the way are you fitting Image wheels in place of the "blingy alloys"?

Henry,

What size wheels are you going for?

Same width as your previous or are you going a little wider?

When are they expecting to get the body on?

I was under the impression the chassis was considered to be a pile of poo and was going to be stiffened at every junction...?

The impression of pooh was probably my posts that showed the weak welds and the quality of tubing. I have had the welds reworked and strengthened; extra tubing to strengthen the chassis, to hold the steering column and pedal box instead of being attached to the glass fibre, rails inside the car along the sills, a roll bar and supports. There were a few rotted sections that have been cut out and replaced.

Some parts are a tight fit and that was discovered where the body has worn through underneath. I will look again at the tie rods. Bearing in mind that the car was pimped and the quality of the alterations is in question. For example the exhaust was touching the chassis. I intend to make the car worthy of the make, but it will not be entered in any concours events.

I will look into the cost of the coil-overs.

Looking good. I like the rear vented disks, do these fit the standard calipers?

Yes, and I'd like to see if I've got extra room under my arch compared to Henry's later car, a 450SE.

Answers to queries:
  • Coil-overs: Approximate figures - £80 per shock absorber in steel (£120 in aluminium); £25 per spring; plus bits
  • Tie bars: chassis and body has been modified so that they fit – modification due to how the chassis used to work with the suspension pulling it in two directions at once. The root cause is the Jaguar rear end being part of the suspension. The ride height is being adjusted so that with the modifications everything will be vertical. A solution would be to put in a proper top arm for the suspension.
  • Rear vented discs: these are from a later XJS with standard callipers and spacers.
  • Photograph of steering column and pedal box mount: this week hopefully
More detail can be provided and any more queries, please shout.

Henry,

Who came up with the tie bar idea?

I wonder if any of the wedge racers have implemented this idea?

Most of the Racers have the older style rear suspension, so they don't have tie bar's as such.

Leigh,

OK on the suspension.

I sent you a pm several weeks ago but it may of got lost in the ether.

Do you still want my old screen?

I can deliver it over next weekend if you're around?

Any excuse for a drive out.

It shattered getting it out but being laminated all the bits stay together so you can still use it as a template for the lexan jobbie.

.....which is exactly what Lotus did to the Esprit after the early ones showed a tendency to fold up. Shouldn't be impossible to do on the TVR... scratchchin
