About to pick up some new brake bits for my 2003 4.2 just wondering if there are any top tips in doing this job. All seems pretty straight forward, just as long as caliper bolts undo!
Cheers

Any tips for getting the pad pins out on the front?

The rears came out no problem but it looks like I need to use a small OD drift, any tips?

Use either a pair of needle nose pliers, or a blunt nail as a drift.

Its a straightforward enough job; you're only hiccup could be if like my on my old cerb the discs decide to weld themselves to the hubs with rust. When it happened to me, no amount of leverage and hammering did anything to shift the dics an inch- it got to the point when I was sure the disc was somehow attached on by some hidden bolt. In the end I bought a massive hub puller to prise it off with an almighty bang when it eventually shifted.

As you see had success in replacing drivers side disc,

however

This one has turned out to be as brogenvilles so I am about to use the old disc and a couple of spring compressors to pull it off. Wish me luck!

BTW Why does one disc wear twice as fast as the other? ( Note angry hammer to remove disc)

Looks like a sticky piston in the caliper. It would probably be a good idea to renew the seals in the calipers.

newer cars wear the inside pad more because of the ESP but no such thing on a cerb so maybe one pad is touching first?

Ok so refurb the calipers next, after I get this disc off. Piston seals where can you get these easily? The comment about ESP is interesting as on both sides its the inner pad which is worn more which is the side of the main brake fluid inlet. Is there more pressure reaching this side?

BG Developments will do you a set of seals for ~£20 a caliper iirc

Just to conclude, I got the disc off with the help of my engineering buddy who suggested with great technical expertise - use a bigger hammer. Out came the 2lb lump hammer and off came a seriously rusted on disc. Bloody awful condition for a 6 year old 25k chunk of pig iron. Just wondering if anyone else has found ebc redstuff pads knackering discs? Gonna go for ferodos this time or any advice?

Got my last set of front discs from TVR Power. For brake pads I'd recommend Carbonn Loraine pads from Brummie, recently had a group buy on them and everyone seemed very pleased with the performance.
