Castle Combe 19 October - Anyone Going?
Discussion
T'was a good day, great weather and perfect circuit conditions. the Bimmer was faultless.
I have to say though I don't think I fitted in with the BHP clientel, it was all Caterfield, Westerhams and Elises being driven pretty conservatively, not like the usual Combe Open days were you get all sorts pounding round flat-out.
I was fecking knackered by the end though. You have no sense of time when pounding round the track.

It was indeed a fine day, much better than the usual rain.
Callan - The Caterfields may have been driving sedately but mine managed to get past you quite easily!
There were a couple..... I would expect every sigle Caterham, Westfeild and Exige to smash my Bimmer into oblivion though.Callan - The Caterfields may have been driving sedately but mine managed to get past you quite easily!

Which one was yours? Does it have Bilstein stickers on the back?
Mine was the silver aeroscreened Caterham.
To be fair the BHP days attract a range of drivers some of whom are a bit slow but the standard of driving is usually good and they're never too crowded.
Your 3 Series estate always amuses me, it really shouldn't go that fast and you've obviously been to Coombe a couple of times before!

Ahhh yes I remember it now, you passed me and were then fTo be fair the BHP days attract a range of drivers some of whom are a bit slow but the standard of driving is usually good and they're never too crowded.

king gone. I was trying to follow you lines but you were just far to quick.Yeah the Bimmer surprises a few people, especially when you tell them that the whole power/drive train is completely standard (not a chip, remap, LSD or lightened flywheel in sight).
The reason I comented was when I turned up I thought "Oh s
t I am going to be spending all afternoon moving out of the way of all these dedicated track cars"Edited by T89 Callan on Tuesday 20th October 12:54

Ahhh another member of the estate cars on track club
I rather like the oddball track car choice, sadly I've gone down the predictable route with a 7.
The 7 is an excellent track car, as are all lightweight builds - I should know given I could use this instead of the Volvo

I still find the Volvo a hoot though - its a daily driven vehicle with all the creature comforts it came with from the factory (including rear integrated child seats and cooler box! LoL), and I also use it as a medical fast response vehicle, so it is quite fun to give it a rip at a track every now and again!

Nice Atom! But does it double up as a van when you're clearing out the garage?
Hit the nail on the head there - for me to take the Atom out for a full day event, I either need to get it to the venue on a trailer, or get someone else to bring a "support vehicle" with all the stuff we need for the day. Last Monday, I was feeling lazy, so I just stuck the spare wheels, jerry cans and all the tools we needed in the back of the Volvo, drove it to Combe, drove it round, and then drove it back - simple as that!
I'd certainly agree that it may not be the ideal car for circuit use, but as the following clip will show, one of our forum members is a regular at The Ring, and his T5-R isn't exactly shy as his lap time shows!

I will say though that mine does come in useful, if I'm taking dirty/oily stuff to the tip I can put a shove it all in the back of the track beast (which with the interior removed is huge) transport it and then hose the dirt out of the back when I get home.
And like you said it can also carry all of it's own gear to track days.
