Urgently need Part Number!

Hi all,

Need some help getting a part number for the solenoid on the starter motor, or where to source one.

My mechanic broke the old one, getting the transmission out, we got a replacement but it is too long and is almost touching the fuel tank, our resources have failed us in finding one which is shorter as per the original one, and it is holding up the project.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My 3R starter motor is (unsurprisingly) a Motorcraft item.

FI1WA Motorcraft 12V
3S7T - 11000 - AC
3130CI

There are no seperate part numbers for the solenoid. It will most likely be an exchange item with any of the motor factors anyway.
The part cross references (with our suppliers) to part No. QS 1603. At £102.50 (exchange).

Only way to be sure of getting the right one is to take the original along with you. My starter motor went a couple of years ago and was replaced by the main dealer (Noble London). As the new one was going in Skip noticed that the terminals were almost touching the fuel tank and despite being the 'same' item the new one, for some inexplicable reason, had a longer solenoid than the other. Needless to say the new longer one was not fitted until a correct sized one was sourced.

I nipped down to PeterGuk workshop today because i remebered he had just put a new M400 engine & transmission in his Noble and he kindly offered me the solenoid off his old 2.5 litre, but unfortuately that was also the same length, seems these got changed to a shorter solenoid when they converted to the 3.0 engine, thanks for the help though Peter, great guy
Can't wait to see the finished project, that is going to be one hell of a car, i noticed Peter had also modified his fuel tank to give even further clearance from the solenoid, makes me wonder, even with the shorter solenoid it is still a bit close to the tank i must agree.
Those dynamag alloys are sick, full carbon fibre rims with magnesium spokes, i think they must strip 50kg off the weight of the car alone, very nice, lots of unique custom mods, but hurry up so we all can see the finished pics please

Just noticed on my starter motor, the model number is slightly different.

FI1WA Motorcraft 12v
3S7T - 11000- AC
3182 CI

Not sure what the difference is, i will continue my search for a shorter solenoid, i have the old one so not sure why my suppliers are having such difficulty sourcing one.

Think i have found a solenoid that will fit from Delco DE-201, it has a shorter body everything else is the same, but not sure until i try, the solenoid is actually classed as marine application, well if it works it works, as long as the engagement and diengagmnet lengths are correct which they seem to be, i do not see why it shouldnt.



It just does not specify its disengaged length, but if the end attachment is 9mm, that looks about 30mm disengaged to me, which should be bang on, as long as it keeps it clear from the flywheel when disengaged thats all that matters, i will let you know the outcome. better sourcing a £20 solenoid than having to replace the entire starter.

Hmm on second thoughts the ford one is 29mm disengaged and 13mm engaged that is 16mm difference, although there seems to be some play on the Ford one.
The Delco one will have 22mm, it may not make contact, think i will continue my search, somebody must make them.

For anybody that comes across this problem, i eventually sourced one, the secret part number remains with 'Brooke Electrical in Cudworth', all he would tell me is it was a Hitachi body with a Mitsubishi cap,typical Noble Hybrid, but if anybody ever needs one just phone them and they will source you one, be prepared though he is a grumpy old git but funny at the same time, if he says "is it off one of those piece of sh*t plastic kit cars" just say yes £30, thanks for putting me in touch with him PeterGuk.

I did warn you. He has been known to offend new customers that lack a sense of humour...

100% true. But the only guy i will use for anything to do with starters or alternators.

Shame of it is, that he's retiring to Portugal in the next 12 months. Hmmm, maybe we should buy up a few solenoids..

old thread alert!!!

I need a starter fir a 6 speed... I understand the solanoid hits the tank if i used the 5 speed one so a sort of offset one has been used... but if i replace the 5 speeder with this short one will it fit?

anyone got pics of their 6 speed starter?

They look identical apart from the offset solenoid on the 6 Spd one, but I could be wrong.

Speak to Brian at Cudworth Electrical as he may just be able to sell you a solenoid, He's a funny old boy to deal with but his service was very good.
The solenoid on the 6 speed is some sort of hybrid he told me, a bit hitachi and a bit somthing else.

Blimey, He rebuilt my solenoid about 3 weeks ago, Things move fast.
