Exhaust hanger keeps coming out....

The 'L' shaped hanger for my exhaust pipe keeps coming out of its rubber housing leaving my exhaust flapping about.

Anyone any idea how I can prevent this?

I was thinking it might be the rubber mount is rubbish - but it looks OK.....

I suppose you could put a starlock washer on the end to stop it coming out, but it seems to me the exhaust position must be wrong for this to be a problem. Perhaps it's moving too far when you're driving - are the engine mounts and other exhaust mounts all ok?

THe hanger does not even get close to poking out the other side of the ruber mount - would not be able to get starlock on there - will have to crawl underneath it......again.....

It would suggest the system needs either moving forward or pulling back to line up the hanger, then its the clamp next to the cats where the adjustment will have to be made.

Easy if you have a lift a PITA if not.

disconnect the holder of the rubber and bend it or weld a washer on the end
but
has your exhaust been changed or did you take it off
when it's far enough in the calalist it can't really come out of the rubber.

That's odd, and might account for your problem. Is the hanger too short to reach through the rubber (perhaps it's broken?) or is it simply in the wrong place (implying exhaust or needs repositioning, or hanger needs repositioning on the exhaust).

Also if it's one of the hangers that is just bent threaded rod, one side of the L is longer than the other on mine so may be in the wrong way round?

it's an easy fix
go to a construction workplace and let them make 2 new ones. make sure the side which go's in the rubber is long enough.
and put a washer on the end (then it can't come out anymore)
can't cost you more than than 10 minutes and 10 quit

I am considering removing the cats again so will have a good look - I can't think of any 'lateral' adjustability when you remove/re-mount the exhaust - I suppose it could be that the front of the cat is not 'slid' on enough.

The hangers are a daft design - they should be as rens described - long and with a 'locking' nut.

When I removed my cats I thought it was too loud - now I have them back on I think its too quiet - even with CCC!

Is the problem that the bracket is too short to go right through the rubber, or is the exhaust simply not far enough over (so the bracket is only half engaged in the rubber)? Is the tail pipe in the correct position?

The bracket only half engages with the rubber mount.

I have a feeling it might be a combination of my bracket rubber 'going' a bit round the edge and maybe me not screwing the exhaust far enough onto the cat.

Either way its a PITA as I will have to barter my way onto another ramp one lunchtime!

I will adjust the exhaust and change the mount (only £5) and if it happens again I will look at getting a longer L-bar made up

Then it seems to me that the bracket is in the wrong place. Unless it's moveable relative to the exhaust, that probably indicates that the exhaust is in the wrong place.

Had a similar problem on a different car.

Cured using a small piece of rubber fuel tubing (about 10mm long) slipped over the end of the hanger, and nipped in place with a little jubilee clip.

It worked perfectly in normal use, but would still slip off after a few track sessions.

Permanently cured now (so far) with a blob of "No More Nails" inside the bit of rubber tube...
