- thought* his wife was in bed.. And then just wildly shoots at something he cannot make out because its dark..I thank the law we are not allowed to do this kind of thing.
Poor guy he will have to live with the guilt for the rest of his life. But shooting into the pitch black a possible intruder was a bloody stupid thing to do. How do they know it wasn't a moment of madness on the grooms part and he shot at his fiance?

It amazes me that the UK would have it's subjects cower in their own homes, hope the police arrive in time to do something, and pray some drug-induced phsycotic will appeal to the better angels of his nature and not shoot, batter or strangle them to death for a lark after relieving them of their DVD player...

Not quite - their murder rate is 4 times higher than ours per head of population. Their burglary rate about 20% less than ours. I can't believe all those additional deaths stem from people defending their homes against intruders...Felters said:

A sizeable part of their murder rate is gang-on-gang shootings, which seems to be a US speciality. A direct comparison with the UK is pretty meaningless.Ditto your burglary stats- are we talking about how many happen, or how many victims/innocents are physically harmed or killed? (this would be the important statistic).

Friend of mine was shot dead by her fiancee the night of her hen night, he got off with it as he gave a statement at the time that she was messing about with his legally held firearm (RUC officer) then refused to give any further evidence at the inquest on the grounds that he could incriminate himself?
