should i sell one of my wedges? if so which one?
Discussion
need your collective advice here chaps. I bought a 350i very cheap on ebay 3 years ago while drunk one night (fell in love with its kitsch white bodywork and crushed velvet red interior...miami vice or what?!) - and bu**er me if I didn't go and do exactly the same again 3 months ago. Another 350i, also in white with red interior, also going cheap (motor not running, no MOT etc).
Clearly i have a problem, which could be solved by not drinking or cancelling my ebay account, or developing a better taste for colour schemes, but right now I have to decide what to do as I only have room/money for one wedge.
my logic at the time of buying second wedge was that it had lots of nice things that I could transfer onto my first wedge if the motor was scrap etc..and i could just break it. in particular it has pristine leather interior, a good hood and power steering. ooooh...parking without sweating cobs..imagine...
trouble is, second wedge turns out to be a potential gem and is far to good to break, but has a few problems yet to resolve (see my post on random engine misfire/clutch problem etc) - so I am utterly confused about which one to keep. Please tell me what you'd do? I'm a Libran and can't even decide what to have for breakfast most days...
brief description of both:
my first wedge is an early Series 1 '84 350i -spent two years sorting it and now it's very good mechanically/bodily but the interior is a little tired (red cloth seats resemble the worn out seats at your local tandoori), and the hood is a bit naff in white vinyl. She drives really well and goes like stink but has no power steering. It has a full history (genuine 70k miles now) and was a Motor Show car.
new one is a Series 2 '85 and turns out to be very well looked after all its life too (has appeared in TVR books as its such a good example etc) - chassis is perfect (see my post on recent repainting) interior is perfect red leather, but motor not running very well and the clutch is scrap. everything else about it is very good (brakes/suspension/e;ectrics all A1). It drives well and the power steering is loooovely. now has new MOT.
so, new one needs money spending to sort out engine/clucth etc but would then be a really good S2 wedge. do i sell first one which is fine as it is, to fund repairs to second, or sell second one and spend proceeds on new interior and a new hood for first car? or keep both and expect battering from girlfriend and bank manager?
The S2 is better in some ways, aesthetically and mechanically, that the S1 but actually I like the originality and purity of the early design - I think the bonnet is better on the early car for instance with its scoops and vents and power bulge. they're both wedges but they're very different - maybe I sholuld keep both...oh hell..
answers on a postcard.
