Battery dimensions
Discussion
Got into my Tam's battery compartment yesterday to sort out corroded Anderson plug & leads and found that a previous owner had inserted a battery that's simply too big for the tray and it sits in there on the pi**......Need to replace with the correct size battery so it can be anchored down safely and reduce the risk of fire etc. I have G's Sag Manual though it only talks about an '036 round top' - is this a standard size (dimensionally)? Or do -036's come in different sizes? There's no mention of Ah or cold cranking capacity neither, and the one I have removed is an 096 and rated at 72Ah and 680 amps.
Dare say I could measure the tray and take a tape measure to the local factors, but I'm hoping there's an easy answer.
Oh, and Anderson deal is really beyond salvaging and heading for the bin, so I'll replace with a Powers version that I can coat in battery grease to protect.
Thanks for any help given,

I have an 096 type on my Tam and it did not fit. You can make them fit by bending the lip up the battery slides under on the far side ans shaving some of the plastic off the battery (solid bit that sits under the lip) it will fit but its not a 5 min job.
The 036 type battery has the terminals reversed so the +ve is away from the body so there is less chance of it earthing out and going bang! If TVR left you enough length on the battery wires then this is a good option if not they will need to be replaced to get the 036 type to fit. You can always improve the insulation on the body to eliminate the risk of earthingthe battery on it.
If you are replacing the Anderson connector you might want to relocate it too. Again not a 5 min Job but you could locate it in the boot or the PS footwell this will eliminate corrosion and make it easy to connect up to when you need it so you don't end up with wet knees or stuck in the garage as you carn't get down the side of the car to plug in?

I believe you need a type 069, specifically with side mounting hold down points. My T350 (should be the same AFAIK) is as follows:
Type 069, 70 Ah, 540 CCA
L 266, W 175, H 204
Side mounting points about 30mm from the bottom and recessed terminals
Make sure you use battery terminal grease on the terminals and the new Anderon connector, being very careful that the latter is not damaged at all.

ps - if the live is chassis inner side then make sure you have insulating rubber / butyl sheet to protect the +ve side from the chassis.

Thanks Shep & Nigey - my live terminal is located on the outer chassis side (earth closest to the engine) and the quick fix is to modify my existing battery to fit. Am also going to re-route the Anderson to a sensible position and that's something I hadn't thought about
And an 036'R' has terminals reversed....

My Tam is struggling to hold charge now, even with the trickle charger, the dash shows 13.4v but its still not enough to start it. I have accessed the battery and it looks like the original TVR one.The details are 069/4 74AH 680 Cranking.
I have searched the web for a direct replacment with out being stung with "TVR tax"
but all the same spec batteries are around 278mm long and unless i have my measurements wrong this wont fit in the battery tray? (The original is around 260/265mm) What spec batteries are all you guys using? Is my original TVR battery "overkill"? Can i get away with a lower spec? I don`t want to down spec, if i can help it, the car has started to struggle when restarting hot last summer so i want a decent cranking battery. Any suggestions?
Thanks
