Hello people, im after some travel advise.

Planning to go the New York this christmas 23rd to the 29th.
Having never been before could anyone advise on where the best places to stay are? Any hotel recommendations? Budget is around £800 for two people for 6 nights.
Have been looking on hotels.com but there is so much to choose from, Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers looks the best so far!

Any tips on where to head of an evening, also what sights to see in the day apart from the obvious.
