Scottish promoter Paul Morrison has reveled he is in talks to bring a Formula One race to Scotland within the next ten years.
Morrison, a music promoter at the forefront of the 'F1 Rocks' concept in which music concerts are combined with grand prix racing, claims he is in talks with Bernie Ecclestone to bring F1 to the streets of Glasgow.
"I'm speaking to Bernie about it," Morrison told The Daily Record.
"We have the roads for it. Next year is when it gets fun because Mr Ecclestone is serious about adding new countries.
"Just because it hasn't happened before it does not wash with me that it can't happen. That is why we will see a Formula One race in Scotland in the future, certainly within the decade," he added.
The Scottish government is unlikely to provide funding for the even but despite this Morrison remains optimistic about the project, insisting that "When I have something in my mind it is just a case of doing it.

I'd be up for a Scottish GP, having moved here from pretty much smack in the middle of Silverstone and Donington. But in Glasgow? No thanks,perhaps Aberdeen though as I mentioned before.
The little downhill section from the Woolmanhill roundabout, past denburn carpark and up over rosemount viaduct is our very own version of Monaco...

Yes, it is far fetched. But it has an international airport, good public transport links, needs something to claim its International status back from Edinburgh. This is less daft than it seems. A circuit on the Clydebank near the modern new buildings and bridges in Glasgow could be like a cut-price Abu Dhabi with drizzle.

The one thing it can't be is a Scottish GP - unless Scotland becomes fully independent (which could happen, of course).

Actually the surprising thing is that Scotland only has one circuit and whilst a blast for club racers was described by Tim Harvey as "like racing round your living room on a BMX" because it's too short!!!
Aberdeen would have been the ideal choice because of the dominance of big oil companies there but when someone tried about 25 years ago to have one built so many nimbys came out of the woodwork that the idea was scrapped almost immediately..
However the nimbys seem less inclined to oppose Trump's ruddy golfcourse which will produce far less income than a decent race circuit would have done.

People have been crying out for another circuit for years. It needs to be somewhere between Glasgow and Edinburgh because 80% of the population live there and it's closer to England and Europe. Given the number of brown field, ex industrial sites there are, a suitable site must exist. The circuit needs to combine as much as possible - length, variety, quarter/half mile straight line strip, garages with youth programmes etc etc. Aberdeen would have been the ideal choice because of the dominance of big oil companies there but when someone tried about 25 years ago to have one built so many nimbys came out of the woodwork that the idea was scrapped almost immediately..

If the proposal is a street track, then for the same reasons that it wont happen in England - that being the requirement of an amendment to an act of parliment that currently forbids road racing on any UK public highway (except on the Isle of Man and somewhere in Northern Ireland.If it is for new circuit, providing the chap has access to £80million or so, then indeed, why not?
