Morning chaps and chapesses,

I thought I would try and glean from the oh so knowledgeable ones on here..........

Are there still any series' out there that is a viable option to drive to the circuit, race and then drive home again (all being well hehe )?

I know that the Caterham Acadamy is one of them but I can't do that as I have a National B.

Any ideas? I know it's a bit of a long shot!

PBMW you will of course need a Nat B still.
As you will for anything apart from hillclimbs etc....

Loads of series' have classes for road going cars.

Combe special GTs (class D IIRC)
LMA Euro Saloons

What are you intending to race? You'll need a full cage, properly mounted seat, and in-date belts, plus the kill switch and plumbed in ext, etc.

We even have a road registered and driven Griff 500 in the tvr challenge, and the Tamora thats joning next season is also a road car

I remember a Peugeot 309 Gti being driven to the circuit, raced in CSCC Tin Tops, & then driven home.

Can probably7 do it in a number of series. Wheter you'd want to is another matter.

So long as the car is road legal, you don’t necessarily have to run in a road going class. You can carry a set of race wheels tyres with you, and swap over at the circuit.
I used to do this in the late 80’s in a 911, arrive on road tyres, swap onto the racing tyres, do the race, swap back, go home. I always made it home!
If you have limited space in your car though, either a small trailer with detachable towing eye, or a mate with another vehicle is useful smile

Come and race in the Elise Trophy Ben, I'm sure your boss will sponsor you. You can arrive and drive, Andrew Kell drove his up to Silverstone last weekend, Hans used to arrive and drive a lot in the past (he even left the circuit after the first ever meet with the clam taped up!)

Many thanks for your replies guys and some great suggestions have cropped up. I really like the idea of maybe somethimg classic (Midget et al) although the most obvious one is the Elise Trophy as young Kevin mentioned.

I could even run the Elise as my daily road car if need be as I have been doing 25k per annum in various Loti over the years...........

Something like this

many people in the HSCC (historic sports car club) series drive to races. Particularly in the Historic road sports and the 70's road sports. And you get extra championship points if you do so.

diahatsu ran in this years lma, drove there swapped wheels and sometimes drove home hehe poor bugger
Ive seen some stock hatch cars on a frames but I think any race car has to be all 4 wheels off the ground after a meeting or your just asking for it.
Any car which is remotley competive is a going to be a complete pill to drive home in

You basically want a series that has very clean racing. I did it in the academy, and did consider it in the Graduates, however, it will make you slower!! Historics definately a good idea for this.

Hi,

There are at least a dozen drive-to drive-from'ers in the PBMW championship. Possible more. Colin Tester recently won a TTRS race outright in a road driven Sierra Cosworth, and Rob Payne did the same in his E30 M3 which was built originally for 'ring use.

Elsewhere as I think has been mentioned you have some historics and I was fairly sure MX5's..
