Disappointed, but not surprised frown
Must find out if my local sleaze merchant chapman will have to repay the cash he was given AFTER he’d paid off his mortgage .

Not really a sincere apology though, she's not going to mean any of it, she's only doing it cos she's been told to.

Can I just check.

If I go into a bank, with a shotgun, and ask for loads of money, then say "Sorry about that", do I just get to keep all the cash?

I can't understand why she does not have to pay the money back. confused Surely any money taken in breach of the rules should be paid back at the very least?!

The ones who have been badly behaved have no incentive to pay the money back as they are about to be voted out or to "retire" or whatever.

I'd put Jacqui Smith in that category.

If she was found to have breached the rules then she should pay the money back.

You have to understand. These people are scum. They don't operate by the same rules as us. In any other walk of life the likes of Smith, Baroness Thieving bd Uddin, Lord Thieving Scum Paul and the rest of these criminals would be sacked and prosecuted. It's a national disgrace.

I disagree.

If they are found to have breached the rules then they have committed fraud/theft and ought to be prosecuted for it.

Nothing less will do.

I have some sympathy with the MPs who asked the Fees Office advice, put in claims, had them confirmed by the Fees Office as being within the rules at the time of submission AND LEGAL, had the claim approved and paid out and are now being asked to repay the claim as the goalposts have been moved.

That's unfair.

But when payments that were not LEGAL were made then the Revenue should get involved. And the cops. Blimmin' apologies do not cut it. The MPs should have to repay the money and the Fees Office officials who gave bad advice should be fired.

Apologise to the house eh?

Hows about the bh apologises to the tax payers who she stole the money from and then pays the price anyone else would have to if they had stolen from their employers? I for one would like to see the police called into this to deal with a case of fraud and theft, sick of these untouchable scum we seem to have in power.

not a good day for her. Two reports also out today for the Green affair in which they basically said she/her department lied in order to get him arrested by police.

as much as i hate them all looking at the facts as told by the bbc

under rules up to 2004 she HAD to make her london home the main residence.

she thought she would spend more time in london being a minister and kept it as the main home which the fees office agreed with.

analysing the past though it seems she did end up spending more time in redditch but at the same time she was actually using the london home unlike a lot of others.

so imho she should apologise for the claims for films and maybe be fined but apart from that whats the big deal IN THIS ONE CASE

That 'Break-dancing' pensioner from that Britains Got the Talent Factor Strictly Show has been ordered to pay back the incapacity benefits he'd claimed for.

Now, although I think this is completely justified, I don't see why he should be forced to pay it back if Jacqui Smith and the likes aren't themeselves forced to pay back the money they stole.

It's a clear example of how there is one rule for us, and another for the Bar stewards running the country.

Lets face it, the rules these idiots have managed to breach were written by themselves so you have to be going some in the stupidity, greed or arrogance stakes to fall foul of them.

Unless CMD pulls something out of the fire I can see tumbleweed blowing through the polling stations in May

My understanding is that the system was deliberately open to abuse (it was in fact being used to top up their wages, instead of getting an official pay rise), but they haven't actually broken any rules?

Obviously some MPs abused the system for their own gain more than others.
