Hi a mate of mine is taking his Caterham for the day, anybody know if cars are available for hire for the day - thinking of a Caterham but may consider anything else available

There are a number of car companies that will meet you at track and hire you a car - do a web search on "track car hire" or similar.

A friend recently looked into the cost of renting a Caterham at Abingdon. The cost was over £500.00. The same company would supply the same car on other track days for less than £200.00. If the hire company have a permanent presence at the track then the costs are much lower. I don't think that there are any such companies based at Abingdon.
