We're in the middle of a bit of a refit so could do with some advice.

We're in need of a new kitchen but I'm going mad. We've got builders in and they are taking out a wall so we'll have a long and fairly wide room. I've had 3 designs done and they all come back more or less the same, but I've no idea if the costs are coming up right.

The room will have units on 2, maybe three walls. The longest run is just over 16 foot by 6.5 (room is another 3/4 foot longer but the back door/window takes up the rest) and is made up of about 16 units. We just want plain gloss white and the units are coming in at about £3500 (though that includes all the fixing kits etc to mount the in built appliances, two corner units and two larder units, sink and taps). Does this sound about right?

I'm banking on appliances coming in about £2500 for decent spec AEG/NEFF/Bosch stuff (F/F, double oven, hob, dishwasher, extractor). Seem reasonable?

Also, what on earth to get for a surface? We don't want wood (been there, done that, never again) and we both love the quartz stuff, but the quote for that is about £2500-3000 which is a bit much, though does include a breakfast bar as well. The equivalent of that in laminate is coming in at about £500, so does anyone know any decent laminates? I've not found a decent one online anywhere!

Fitting - been quoted £1500, which seems a bit much but welcome comments.

I'll post some pics up once we get it all sorted, house is in all sorts of mess at the moment!

Just had my old kitchen ripped out the other day, and in the middle of a refit.

We're going for gloss black units, and laminate work tops, the kitchen is from Howdens and is approx £4000 including soft close fittings, sink, taps, handles Etc

On top of that we have the appliances which i sourced on the net

Bosch Gas Hob - £300
Bosch Integrated Dish washer - £400
Bosch Single Oven - £400
Bosch Microwave Combi Grill - £500
LG American Style FF - £800

Total for appliances £2400

And then there is the fitting cost which is approx £2000.

The builder is including a s/s Extractor hood, gas pipework being brought into the kitchen, ceiling & walls being plastered, down lighters fitted, under unit lighting, prep for tiling and the installation of the kitchen.

I then have to get a tiler to do a little bit around some of the units and window sill, and probably paint the walls myself

All in all approx £8500

If you don't mind me asking what size kitchen was this for and how many units?

We have a Howdens kitchen in our current property and are very pleased but are in the process of moving and are going to go for the same as yourself - gloss white and possibly a bit of black in our new property.

We've looked at b&q but the quality doesn't seem as good as the howdens stuff we currently have

Thanks

ETA: The price you quoted was that at there brochure price or trade discount? Thanks

The kitchen is 360cm x 290cm

Below is a mock up of how the kitchen units will look like. Work top, flooring and wall colour are all subject to change.

The price for the kitchen I quoted was a trade price through my builder.

I had a new kitchen in january. It was an old solid kitchen with handmade new units where needed. The old kitchen inc double belfast sink was free as we took it out. The new units (4, extractor hood) and messing aroud with the old ones to get them right plus all our new granite which was cut to our specification and fitting of the lot was not that much money - less than your worktop quote. Mind you the granite was destined for someone else and we had the leftovers (they must have had some huge kitchen (apparently it was over 100ft by 40ft).
All depends on where you go, who you go to and how fussy you are prepared to be. I was having black granite and had to have green as that was what they had enough of. I really like it and it suits our farmhouse.
Do shop around

Thats a lot of units , the builder will probably be getting about 65% discount off the units and worktops .

You only ever have a black kitchen once
