I would like to nominate the Isle of Wight. I am here visiting relatives at present.

My reasons are as follows:

1. The roads are appalling. It's like a bloody third world country here. Anything with a low stance or front splitter will get damaged.

2. The standard of driving is comically bad. Three separate old bds have nearly crashed into me today, despite my usual excellent wheelmanship.

3. You have to travel over on a ferry from the mainland, and this allows 0.000001 mm between each car, making door dinks/parking scrapes extremely likely.

4. I don't think that you can buy super unleaded.

5. All the cars here are st.

Not a satisfying place to enjoy your car then. And many many people appear to be inbred.

Any other nominations for poor places to drive?

Leicester, without a doubt.

You have to see to believe the sheer amount of traffic lights here! And they're all out-of-sync so once you get a green, the next will be on red.

Epsom high street is laughably bad when it comes to red traffic lights per square inch

Yes, they are a bit bumpy in places. It gives grockles like you something else to complain about, like it's our fault you went for autobahn-spec M-sport suspension on your shopping hatchback!

Being a north island BMW driver I expect courtesy and indicators confused you.

Never had a mark on any of my cars travelling on the ferries 3-4 times a week. Sit in your car until the cars round you empty. Simples.

Texaco Fairlee super 97, Texaco Wootton super 97, Tesco Ryde super 99.

I'll tell my friends with various ferraris, lambo, TVR, M3, M5 etc, etc that they are st, compared to your 1 series. I'm sure they'll agree.

75 sq miles of largely unpoliced roads with only 4 scameras all in town and loads of fun roads to drive once the grockles have gone home. I'll take it over the grim East Midlands any day of the week! smile

Here's a vid of how terrible the driving is here. Apart form the mile long straights for overtaking and the sea views! What did you do? Drive round the Newport one way all day? biggrin

Definately, I hate driving in cities. Derby is the worst I have experienced though.

Derby is mental, it makes no sense. I lived there for a year and still got lost everyday.

Australia.

Its bloody awful.

Terrible standard of driving.

Terrible lane discipline.

Slowing down on slip roads when entering freeways.

Extreme lack of ability to handle traffic jams. lane merging politely - forget it.

Nazi police - 5kmhs over already very low speed limits - have yourself a fine and points.

Ultra Nazi police - 30kmh over the speed limit - Lets impound your car for a week and give you a huge fine and points.

Drive away too quickly from a junction or traffic lights - you're hooning - have yourself a fine and points.

Crap cars - this is probably WA specific but anything interesting is rare. A sea of Toyota Corolla's/Camrys all in white. Think HSV Clubsports (Vaux VXR8) never having been driven quicker than 70mph.

Terrible, terrible place for anyone with an ounce of interest in driving.

Not just a WA thing... anything interesting in Sydney is driven by a "nightclub promoter" and is leased so is never maintained and never driven outside the metro area.

Roads are awful, it's a 90min drive to anything resembling an interesting road, radar detector = license gone, I live in a a "nicer" part of town and still had more break-ins and vandalism on my E46 320Ci that parking a Boxster on the street in London. Had to buy a new house to get off street parking.

The A13 between Central London and the M25, people who were driving perfectly well suddenly seem to forget about using mirrors and lane discipline.

Most cities. Especially London when you don't have a sat nav and have to get from Kingston to New Cross and go in the congestion zone by accident.

On many points agreed, the Nazi police even fined me for having my elbow leaning on the door whilst driving a convertible - apparently it's an offence 'to hang any limb outside of a moving vehicle' What a load of S**t.

However, I can forgive it almost anything for the Blue Mountains twisties and the Northern Territory unlimited roads where they are wide, straight, excellent condition and you can drive as fast as you dare.
