Aston Martin DB5 Editions

Hi Gents,

I am looking for a list of all DB5 editions available from the factory - does anyone have this information it would help me out a great deal.

DB5? Not a DBS but a DB5?? Then there are 2:

1) Coupe
2) Convertable

having editions of a car was really a marketing fad from the 80s. Nobody bothered much before then

And each one was available as "Vantage" with triple 45 Webbers, instead of the triple SU layout.

I don't think many DB5 vantages were actually ordered by customers, but a number were converted later on to vantage spec. AFAIK the number of 'real' vantages is in the teens. Could be completely wrong though.

65 "vantage" where ordered. Albeit I don't know if this includes the convertibles or not. In fact I can't find a clue whether there where any convertible ordered with the "vantage" configuration.
And I can't find a clue either whether there was actually a DB5 Vantage. The therm established on the DB4 and I know for sure there where DB6 Vantages. But I only find DB5 with optional Webbers in the chronicles. Not a DB5 Vantage.

A lot had this configuration retrofitted. Or even got a RSW 4.2l (or even better the RSW 4.7l!!) engine fitted.

What about the GT ?

The Zagato ? Although I am not sure as to which factory they came out of ? Were they done by Zagato and sent back to Aston for sale ?

That was the DB4. Not the DB5.

True. But it was David Brown himself who built one for gis personal use. Following that, the facory themselves sold a dozen to customers. They only outsourced them, because they where too busy building the standard car. It is much stronger related to Aston then, for example, the fabulous V8 Vantage shooting brake by Roos. The ones works service built on their own (based on the Virage and V8 Vantage) where only built in such a small numbers, that all together don't exceed the DB5.

I think the key factor is that Astom Martin sold the shooting brakes to customers. Just because Karmann (or whoever it was) built Ford Escort cabriolets didn't not make them Fords.

You could argue that the last of the line DB4 series 5 cars were actually DB5's. The same could be said of the DB6 short chassis volante, which was built on left over DB5 convertable chassis'
