Hi all,

As some of you are probably already aware I am getting married next January and so I am looking for a venue for the evening do, which is going to be a ceilidh with a buffet too.

Does anyone know of a suitable venue or hall I could hire, prefferably with a stage area and a bar. Should ideally be around the Leith area although anywhere towards the north of Edinburgh would be ok, maybe within about a 5 to 8 mile radius of Leith/Leith Walk area.

I would be VERY gratefull for anyones help and suggestions, fiance would also be gratefull too.

Cheers for any help.

Have you tried looking around the Museelburgh area??

This is where my sister had her wedding reception. They have good places for photos too. The hall is a decent size & its not to expensive.

Also in Musselburgh
May be slightly more expensive but its a very nice place.

Hi Ross,

The Quay Complex looks very interesting, there is a provisional booking for our day at the mo, but it might be nothing. Thanks a lot for the recomendation.

If anyone has any other places then please let me know.

This would take a lot of organising but if I were to get married which aint gonna happen for a long long time if at all lol my choice would most definatly be.

Hire out the memorial hall at Merchiston Hi School in Colinton.

http://www.merchiston.co.uk/Overview/virtualtour1....

You would need to prepare the hall as you would like it and get a company in to do the buffet. Drink you would also need to provide but its all very possible and you may also get help from the school with students as waiters im sure they offered that when my mum hired the hall for her birthday.

I know its not in your area but would make an awesome setting. smile

If the budget can cope there is also http://www.thehub-edinburgh.com/

Im out of other ideas this is where you need the taxi drivers of the forum common Yarass must be others... smile

Thomas Morton Hall, you'd have to supply your own bar (I think), but it's in leith;

(I'm biased as I work there)

Marchmont St Giles Church Centre

Okay it's in Marchmont obviously but only about 2 miles from Leith Walk though. Probably smaller than the other venues mentioned - numbers around 120 for a ceilidh - but hopefully cheaper too!

We can provide the catering, whether for a proper sit down buffet meal beforehand or just a selection of buffet food during the ceilidh, to whatever budget you require or you're welcome to use your own.

No stage but there is space for a band in the hall. You'd also have the rest of the centre, giving you space for a bar (if you supply the alcohol) and quieter seating areas for guests.

Afraid the website is a bit lacking but if you give the office a call or pop into the cafe (10am to 4pm), you're welcome to have a look around.

Someone has mentioned the Thomas Morton Hall already but just to second that. Its at the very far Leith end of Ferry Road and hosts ceilidhs for the forces a lot still.

Totally outside catering & outside bar but there are large kitchens available for the caterers to use & its local authority owned, so its bound to be cheap smile

Don't know what your budget is but how about Royal Botanic Gardens. Never been to a wedding there but I've heard it's great.

Phoned them earlier and the hire charge is £3,500 plus licence fees, WAY above our budget which is a shame as I agree it would have been great.
