Removing Front Wishbone - How ??
Discussion
I'm trying to replace the Front wishbones, and can't for the life of me see how to remove it. I've removed the 4 Allen headed screws shown near the arrow, but the big balljoint thing is holding it in place - what do I need to do to remove the lower wishbone?
Will this be another of those 'This should only take me an hour jobs' !!
Thanks to Nefarious for his diagram from a previous thread.

Hi Alan,
You've removed the four allen bolts that hold the ball joint to the lower arm but you need to undo the big nut that holds the ball joint to the hub. You can see the thread the nut screws on to, on top of the ball joint in that diagram.
IIRC the nut is accessed by removing the metal plate on the back side of the hub.
BUT.....the easier way of doing it is to remove the four allen screws which hold the track rod locating plate to the hub. (if you go up from your arrow its the first vertical bolt, there's four in total). You can then separate the trackrod plate from the hub and remove the nut once the wishbone is off the car.
Do you see what I mean
Are you replacing them as they're bannana shaped??
Rich.

Cheers Guys - So this is one of those "I'll have it done in an hour jobs" then

So I've removed the Allen Screws circled in Red, labeled 'A'
Now I need to remove the 4 Allen Screws - four Blue X's labeled B
Then the plate with the red Arrow comes away, take off the nut from the Ball joint, and then I can remove the lower wishbone arm - Yes??
PS I'm replacing them with some new Poly bushed ones.

LOL - that's exactly the mistake I made (as you probably saw from the thread you took the diagram from).
What you said in your last post is absolutely correct - it's the big ones that need to come out not the little ones.
Oh, and if, like me, you've mullered all those small cap-heads trying to get them out, don't pay the silly money most motor factors want for them - Screwfix sell bags of 50 SS ones for about £8.
And when you put them (both big and small) back in, then a bit of threadlock is a really good move as they have a bit of a habit of working loose.

I just read through this post and it looks like you have replaced the allen headed bolts with SS ones. These allen headed bolts am sure as it was a while since I looked at them are high tensile Gr12.9 socket head cap screws, SS (Gr A2) will be have a much lower tensile strength. It will be something like 1200N/mm2 vs 700N/mm2. Suggest you get them changed back pronto. What you said in your last post is absolutely correct - it's the big ones that need to come out not the little ones.
