Porsches at Daytona
More than half the field made up of Porkers
When the green flag drops for the 42nd running of the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona, 128 Porsche drivers will be on hand to participate in 28 Porsche 911-based race cars and three Porsche-powered Daytona prototypes.
Led by defending overall and GT champion The Racer's Group Porsche 911 GT3 RS (Kevin Buckler/Timo Bernhard/Jorg Bergmeister and newcomer Patrick Long), both the 911 GT3 RS and 911 GT3 Cup cars will frequent the two GT classes, and three Fabcars powered by Porsche will compete in the Grand-Am's Daytona prototype class.
"This is one of the largest turnouts of Porsche race cars ever at an internationally-sanctioned race", said Uwe Brettel, president of Porsche Motorsport North America, the U.S.-based company responsible for all of Porsches racing activity in the U.S. and Canada.
"With 56 cars currently entered in the race, Porsches make up more than half the field, and we are pleased that some many top U.S. and Canadian race teams have chosen to race 911s and prototypes powered by Porsche", added Brettel.
