I know there has been a lot of talk of stopping the negativity re SP6 engines on this forum recently so please dont flame me for my question.

On the early Tuscans, if they have been returned to the factory to rectify the follower problems, have they proved to be as sorted as the newer cars once rebuilt?

I guess I was a little nervy of the earlier SP6 engine cars due to a fairly high percentage of rebuilds needed. However, as the engine has become more developed, the percentage seems to be lowering all the time. I havent heard of many probs at all with later Tuscs, T350, Tams etc.

So an early Tusc with an engine rebuild out of the way, have they proved as reliable as the later cars?

I think its the case that if it had a rebuild this year then it gets the head with the new oil channels etc that have solved the starvation issue/non issue...

I am aware of a number of Speed Six engines that developed the finger follower problem at about 6000 miles, and not exclusively limited to those manufactured in Yr 2000. The problem was traced to the infamous finger followers and consequently replaced. The owners of such cars, that I know personally, have gone on to current mileages of more than 17,000-18,000 miles and engines have not given further trouble. If the engine is an early one and has been back to either TVR or TVR Power, then no further problems should be expected.

New company car then Phil
Stand by for the next question, "can you get a set of golf clubs in the boot of one?" .

To be honest if I were you I wouldn't be overly worried about the 'finger follower profile'.

I'd be more worried about your 'personal finger problems' having just seen the picture on your profile.

"Engine Rebuild" can mean lots of different things.
I suggest you check what work was done to ensure the dodgy bits have been replaced. (check with factory)

For instance, on my first rebuild they did the finger followers, second rebuild, the cams and valve gear and whole bottom end and third rebuild the head and head gasket.

If this all checks out then you should have a new spec'd engine (without all the nightmares!).

Note: The redesigned head was only a fairly recent thing!

Mine finally seems to be going OK now, hopefully I'll get some trouble free motoring !

Good luck!

Definately check on the work done...

My engine problem was down to a conrod snapping rather than finger followers. Having said that the rebuild was pretty extensive so would probably have included all the new good bits. I say probably as I never saw the car again as I changed it while the engine was still being sorted...
