HI Guys, Had an iteresting day with ro Ro, or more to the point the dash. Got in the car to go to work all fine. Stopped at Asda for lunch (Meat feast roll or juice and Carrot cake.) jumpped back in the car and off to work i went but the dash started to show 160mph and all the other dials were juddering. When i stopped the car all went to zero but the speedo. Had to turn the ignition on a and of a few time and the speed came down by 20mph each time till nothing. When i jumped in the car to come home the speedo would show excess 150 all the time the rev counter would no go any higher than 2000rpms and the fuel and temp gauge showed nothing. Got the car home and switched ignition off then on and everything was fine all gauges showed what the should. Temp just under half way and fuel just over 1/2 a tank and revs just under a 1000.

Any ideas?

Si

Ps carrot cake was bliss biglaugh

Mine did it once and then never did it again, personally would wait and see if it happens again - unless you have new car or Net Q warranty.

I know Roger has a tech2. But not sure if that means he has access to the bcm firmware as well. Maybe he can pipe up if so. But an upgrade of all the bcm and module firmware could be a good idea.

wasn't there something about it being a dry solder joint mentioned on here in the past?

should say it happened to me once while leaving a classic car show and sat in queue at 0mph, switch off and back on and havent seen it now in over 2 years

Yeah old GTS had a crap setup with a module to convert to MPH. But a simple tune of the ECU avoids/replaces it.

Maybe the monaro has a similar issue, not sure. One of the service chaps will know.

I took it to a dealer with 2 different videos showing teh fault. I filmed myself getting into my car (caught the reg to prove it) and they insisted that unless they saw the fault happen they wouldnt do a thing. I said it was so periodic they might have it for a year. Good luck getting vauxhall to admit to a very common fault.

The dealer no interested gotta take it to aberdeen to find out if warranty will cover it, Then take it back when they get the bits in, So for a faulty dash i have to do 600 miles And thats if the fault will show itself

Think if it goes ill hand it into our electronics company and get it sorted with them after all its supposed to be a dry solder joint

i did the same except no reg and just filmed it while driving and vaux accepted it under warranty even though the car was 6k miles outside warranty no hassle

it must just be down to the pot luck of the spackwit you speak to at authorised counter. I say spackwit, not all are bad but they switched over to selling Dae... sorry, Chevrolet stiz', I had one as a courtosey car as they figured out how to keep the car a few days without doing the job.
