I have the above car with nav but not the map type. Direction only kind of thing but it only allows me to put in the first 4 parts of a post code and is annoying to say the least.

Anyone know or have a link to a disc I can buy to enable full post code entry?

I have the latest 09' disk (cough, a 'backup'), and it doesn't have the full postcode entry.

PM me if you would like one, or I can point you in the direction of it if you like.

I heard the official explanation from VAG and associated companies is that they don't allow full postcodes as it might allow someone to steal your car and immediately head to your "home" postcode and burgle your house on the basis that you were out at the time (seeing as they'd just stolen your car somewhere). Of course, it hardly stops people putting "home" down as a stored location anyway. Personally, I'd prefer to have the full postcode capability.

Does anyone have a VAG car of some kind that does have full postcode capability?

No way, you can even get discs that allow V reg BMW's to do full post code.

Only the UK use 7 digit postcodes, everyone else 5.

Not really that much effort to put in a couple of letters of your street name and Audi probably can't be bothered to change it. DVD Nav nets them 1800 quid a pop...

I think the Audi database is lacking. It doesn't have my road on it but my 6 year old navman does.

You mean the street names that aren't listed on the disc but they appear on post code search???

No. My street doesnt come up on postcode search or on street name search. I have just (this morning) sat in a new A5, A6 and A8 in the dealers none of them have full postcode search and none of them had my street. But most mobile satnavs have all of that and cost £200 pr less. Seems very odd to me that Audi dont make their system better than a portable one. All the 3d landscape is very pretty but functionality could be better.

Often where a road is A*** and ******* Avenue it will list the A number but not the road name.

the real issue is navteq charge a lot more for full postcode rather than 5 digit.

TomTom obviously ship a lot more units than audi all told so it makes sense.

I personally prefer street entry. More than once it's caught me out on the postcode. LAst time there was a canal in the way!

It's one of those things that I found annoying in principle but in practice I don't even notice; seems like a lot of fuss over an extra few moments to programme the navigation.

I find that these days many people say "have you got satnav? Here's the postcode, see you later, bye"

So flippin annoying, and some places have several streets with the same name and the same first part of postcode.
