After reading about on various forums i've heard that the turbo can be prone to failing on my car

now im not sure if im just being paranoid but im starting to think that mine might be on its way out

what sort of symptoms should i be looking for to find out

Edit: BTW its a '54 plate Ford Focus 1.8 TDCI

would probably help if i told you the make of my car

blue smoke, oil on air filter, oil dripping from an intercooler pipe and rapid oil level drop are the main ones to look for, if its the last one, do not drive it'll go into oil over run and your pistons will come say hello...

best thing to do next is remove the air pipe on the turbo and check for play in the bearing, if its got lots of movement it'd be better to get changed sooner before the damage comes. or wait for a symtom i listed earlier

I had this happen to me on one of our works TDCI Focus'. Lots of fault lights on the dash, took the key out, err... why's it revving faster now?? Lots of smoke, oil and noise followed by one last big BANG!

The car was towed away never to be seen again...

well its all under warrenty so its going into a garage this morning, so im going to find out the results later today, although talking to a couple of mates they don't think it is a turbo now, but more like a knackered bearing somewhere
