Had my Renault 5 Le Car turbo sitting in the shed for ages restoring it.Fired up the ol' girl today for the first time in two years.Sequence went intermittent spark wouldn't catch, fired up after three tries, hunted a lot and needed choke to keep going, then as if by magic after 5 minutes of running it magically cleared itself?Anyway, back to the coolant.System was completely empty so it was a total refill.I know the routine for these roughly as i've had 5 GT turbos. What was happening was after i had filled the expansion bottle to the required level, then the radiator i fired her up.Up to a point the coolant in the radiator was going down slowly and i was filling as it was going, every now and again it would rise up and spill out but overall it was going fine. Then the water started spurting out and wouldn't stop!I had to switch it off.Is the cause for this the fact i can only find one coolant bleed screw on the car?(The matrix one)there doesn't seem to be another one where there should be one according to the Haynes manual,to the right of the cylinder head looking from the front of the car?Is the water spouting back out the radiator because the other part of the system isn't getting bled properly? Thanks!

sounds like an air lock prob be worth leaving it overnight with the cap off and let the air escape then try bleeding again, trouble is with cars like these it could be down to a whole load of troubles like sticking thermostat, coolant fan not working, or even head gasket failure i had similer problems with my pug which lead to a crappy earth on the fan which would sometimes work.

If you can jack the car so the expansion tank is the highest point, it will make the air come out easier. We used to do this with our banger cars with the rads installed in the back - lots of pipework to get locks in. We lifted them up with the tractor.....
