Has anyone out there got a reverse gear mechanism apart from quaife or mnr on their BEC I.E idler wheel powered by a starter motor.Some ideas would be nice as i want to design my own.

Needed for IVA though, unless they have changed their minds.

Stingraymotorsport do a kit for the R1ot which is driven by a starter motor acting on a gear ring mounted next to the diff sprocket.

P.S. Yes I assume the OP has a front engined car so this is not usable just pointing out an electric motor has been used.

There's an offroad buggy here in NZ that continues to run a chain to a planetary gear system. Simply pulls a lever to engage reverse. Works wonderfully well, compact and I would think reasonably cheap.

Most of the RGB field use a starter motor and a sprocket by the rear prop mount.

My Caterham Blackbird has a starter motor reverse to a sprocket on the drive shaft.

I hate it with a passion though from what I've heard fromsome guys about servicing reverse boxes it may be the better option. It certainly takes some getting used to!

And people looking at you like you're some kind of Milk Float!

Oh no you shouldn't have told me about that site.My wife will go nuts.There's only so many hours in the day for tinternet.
