Unemployed. Again. FFS.
Discussion
After starting my new job all of 6 weeks ago, I now find myself unemployed again.
The job I took was on a 6 week contract, on the understanding that if everything was satisfactory I would be looking at a 12 month / or permanent contract.
Well me + 12 other (longer term) employees were taken into the staff room today and told that because the parent company had lost out on a couple of contracts they were having to cut roughly 40 employees. Unfortunately 12 of those had to come from our site. My boss did have a quiet word with me afterwards and said something along the lines of 'there's a possibility that a couple of the management staff will be leaving in January...and would I be interested?' which, of course, I am but that leaves a few months and still no guarantee of a job!
I understand that they just can't keep us on but it would have been nice to have more than two days notice to sort something out. I asked what the form was at the back end of last week and got a non-committal 'should be fine' sort of reaction.
Meh.
