Any serious intrest in 4.7 AJP's
Discussion
hi all just wondering if anyone out there would be intrested? Will be running two cerb's in GT Cup next year(john-jonnyw and mike-itsallyellow) with 4.7s but in different versions of tune and one in a tuscan and sagaris and will be able to offer the option for your cerbs if your considering or need a rebuild contact me for further info at andyapmauto@aol.com with requirements

I would imagine that for most of us normal people, a 4.7 rebuild would be considered only if a rebuild was necessary, and that is not a paerticularly common event in normal use.
I'd certainly be interested, but it would require a moderately terminal issue with the engine to get to that decision point..

I think that's pretty much the crux of the matter. If mine went bang, then if it was comparable to a standard rebuild cost wise, then obviously it's the way to go, although with all this malarky over Hagerty not insuring modified cars, it gives us some food for thought.I'd certainly be interested, but it would require a moderately terminal issue with the engine to get to that decision point..
I think it would be good to know the options for a rebuild as these cars are getting older and at some point most are going to need some serious work.
What I'd like to know are the various costs.
So too rebuild a std 4.5 back to std 4.5, new pistons, balanced and lots of other stuff I have no idea about.
Then is there a better spec for a 4.5? Lighter pistons etc?
Where would a 4.7 fit in with that cost wise? If the engine is completely stripped , is it just a case of increasing the bore a little and bunging some bigger pistons in? Or is there a lot more to it?
Cheers

I think it would be easier to increase the stroke. I'm sure Andy will be along soon to explain whats involved. What I'd like to know are the various costs.

If I have understood current prices well enough, a "normal" rebuild is probably £6k or so?
I imagine that quite a few people would pay an extra £1-2k on "better" components and lightening/polishing/balancing, especially if some reference to reliability is made.
The question is what the premium over that would be for the extra 200cc.
Personally, I would think that any significant amount over around £9k would mean most people would stay ordinary, or worse go LS transplant.
The gamble is pitching the price to get maximum volume with a sensible return to Andy.

An S6 upgrade to 4.3 litres at TVR Power is a tad over 8 grand, so I would guess that a 4.7 litre V8 would have to be around GBP 10,000 if you get all the upgraded parts that the S6 gets.
I suspect its much less £s than that...

. But I'd love to see someone in the wings do though.
