Hello again folks,
As my fuel gauge doesn't work, I was wondering what mileage I can expect on a full tank of fuel on a 328i manual. Obviously this depends on driving style...

I don't tend to light the rear wheels up (well, not all the time) and 90% of my driving is on the motorway which I drive at 'normal' speeds, the trip computer is showing an average of 28mpg. I know these things aren't that accurate but if someone could do a controlled experiment I would appreciate it. Currently filling up when trip says 300miles gone.

Just curious...nuts

300 miles sounds about right to me. I find the obc pretty good to be honest

Mine is a cab, but I am getting just over 30 to the gallon. Do you know how big the tank is, as you can compare that to the ammount you put in at 300 miles and see how much further you could push it...

Thanks Fellas, not sure how large the tank is as I haven't run it dry. I'll keep it to 300 miles then. Ta. biggrin

Does the OBC tally with the mileage you are doing divided by the amount youre putting in it?

If it is a e36 then the tank is 65 Litres. The obc works out the average mpg over the mileage. My 325i will get about 350 miles on a tank and around 400 on a long run.

boxedin Ok sorry, what i meant to say was does the OBC tally with the figures youre getting from your actual consumption.........come on im not that stoooopid. You know checking what miles your doing against the fuel youre putting in it.

Or do you want me to shut the fk up? hehe

It seems to tally ok really, just wondered how large the tank is really, I have never filled from empty to give me a full indication really. My nightmare would be running out in the M5 roadworks on the avonmouth bridge.

In fact, I think I would just leap over the side. biggrin

Actually the good thing about breaking down in the road works is that its free recovery, isnt it?

Morning Mike.

When I had her I ran her on these assumptions:

Razzing the tits off her (i.e a hoon) = 200 miles to a tank.
Normal day to day driving around town = 300 miles to a tank.
Driving at 70 on the motorway non stop = 400 miles to a tank.

I even worked out one morning when I had an empty autobahn to play with:

100 miles at 100 mph = 22mpg as I was to the brim when I left, and brimmed again when I arrived.

I ran her dry only once in all that time, and when refilling would frequently squeeze in 63 litres. She especially enjoyed a tank of VPower every 1 in 4 - made her run more smoothly and powerfully. Made her sip a bit more lightly too.

thumbup

I trust she's well. I'm rather enjoying the Pug - I've done a week of commuting, and still not got off the max fuel guage hehe

Now investigating organic vergetable oil to really impress the missus hehe

read the manual. take the number of gallons and multiply by a safe consumption rate (say 23). Or you could ask everyone on the internetsmile

Spend £2 on a petrol can at Asda and keep it full in your boot, better safe than sorry.

I spent an hours labour getting it fault traced and it was tracked FROM the fuel sender units back to the dash. The fault is in there by all accounts, so I left it unfixed smile

Dangerous game that. Although, that said, I did carry a petrol can just in case. But empty.

Fill up every 200 miles then. A new(secondhand) dash pod will cost you £30+VAT+delivery from Quarry motors, has someone suggested it might be that?

300 miles worked fine, even with my heavy foot.

To get 200 miles to the tank, I usually would be found on a track...

I get about 340 miles from my M3 and I have an extra 400cc to play with. What am I doing wrong?
