F1 2010 - Will it be better than 2009?
Discussion
Bit of an open question with lots and lots of 'ifs and buts' - but what do you guys think?
Will the ban on re-fuelling equal the field out or play into the hands of the experienced teams?
Will we return to 1 or 2 dominant teams as opposed to this year where theres been a real mix at the top?
Will we have a British GP - and where?
Will the new teams be mobile chicanes for the fast boys?
Will we see any overtaking?
Will more manufacturers leave / join F1?
What is the liklihood of the FIA regaining some credibility?
So many questions and we havent finished 2009 yet.
Thoughts / Questions / Opinions please chaps

No, i don't think it will be as good as this year, don't think Button will be as good as he was at the start of the year and my moneys on Hamilton for the title.
Pretty much my thoughts. I suspect with no fuel pitstops the order after the 1st lap will be the order for the race. And McLaren and Ferrari will be back at the top. Brawn/Red Bull behind them. Then Everyone running Cosworth will be at the back.Munter said:

I too am concerned that if Jenson doesnt pull it out of the bag this year, he might find it difficult to get anywhere near again.
Will the ban on re-fuelling equal the field out or play into the hands of the experienced teams? It won't help or hinder many teams in particular.
Will we return to 1 or 2 dominant teams as opposed to this year where theres been a real mix at the top? 3 or 4, as this year.
Will we have a British GP - and where? Yes. Silverstone. Could have told you that a year ago.
Will the new teams be mobile chicanes for the fast boys? No.
Will we see any overtaking? Yes
Will more manufacturers leave / join F1? Probably.
What is the liklihood of the FIA regaining some credibility? Seriously unlikely, unless (perhaps) Vatanen wins

I really don't know regarding dominant teams.
If i'm right in that the Aero/Design of the cars will be unchanged from 2009, then in outright pace, it's going to be close.
As in raw pace without fuel adjustments the field seems to be extremely close.
Overtaking? Let's face facts. The cars are very close on pace. The aero of the cars doesn't allow cars to follow closely. (unless it's raining).
The current design rules are not going to promote good on-track racing.

The cars will need to be longer to allow for the extra fuel tank space. And I'm sure that will have an effect on the aero. But how much I'm not clever enouth to know....If i'm right in that the Aero/Design of the cars will be unchanged from 2009, then in outright pace, it's going to be close.

True, but my gut feeling is that if the Diffuser & Front/Rear Spoiler rules remain the same along with the relatively modest output engines, then the level of overtaking will the same but without the low/high fuel load effect.Munter said:

The current design has the space to allow for the larger fuel cell.

It won't make much difference, except there will be no fuel-based passing via pit stops.A911DOM said:

Hard to tell. But given that the aero regs will remain the same as this season, I think Brawn and Red Bull will almost definitely at the front, with McLaren and Ferrari likely to be join them. Others to watch out for will be Williams and Force India for occasional glory runs on particular tracks.A911DOM said:

I think even Bernie will not want to lose the British GP. There will be one, but it's a coin toss between Donington and Silverstone.A911DOM said:

Probably for the first few races. Once the European shown begins, they'll start to close the gap.A911DOM said:

I think drivers will now be more willing to take risks for positions on track, as opportunities for passing via pit stops will be reduced. This probably won't result in more overtaking, but I think there will be more wild overtaking attempts.A911DOM said:

Probably not.A911DOM said:

Depends on who is elected as the president. With Todt, no. With Vatanen, maybe.james_gt3rs said:

Button will win on default because everyone around him (Red Bull etc) has made a comedy of errors. Poor end to the year.
No, Button will win because of his superb start to the season (possibly due to having the best car?).I like Button, he also drove very well during the first half of the session. I hope he wins. I also like Brawn GP. But I can see them both fading to mid-field status next year. Button's averaged 3 points a race for the last 8 races. That's very, very poor, and not champion level stuff.
Brawn are also having to keep developing their 09 car because they haven't managed to wrap up both titles. That puts them at a disadvantage next year. I think that Red Bull will be strong next year, I hope Brawn are. But I wouldn't be surprised if Ferrari and McLaren spank everyone else in 2010.

Isn't it easier to say you'd be surprised if Ferrari and McLaren spank everyone else?
