Legal standing - dispute over unfinished job
Discussion
Hi All,
I had a wooden floor laid over a year ago, which had a few joints that were not seated correctly. At the time, the fitter said that they would drop into place within 3 months, as the wood naturally shrunk. After 3-4 months the floor was the same, so the fitter came back and agreed that a number of boards needed to be replaced. This was done, but the floor was left in a worse state than before.
Several more visits have taken place, where the fitter has come without sufficient boards to do the job, or they have been too thick (due to the board design having changed). The latest suggestion (from both the fitting company and also the Parrador rep) is that a layer of polish be applied to the whole floor, which will fill the gaps and make it smooth.
They failed to turn up today, saying that the delivery they were expecting hadn't turned up.
I've had enough and want to know where I stand. I paid the full amount when the floor was laid (stupid I know). I now want to give them a set time period by which the floor must be perfect, otherwise I will use another company and send then the bill.
Can I do this?
thanks in advance.

I would say not, as they would just argue you didnt give them enough time to rectify the issue, or some such nonesense (although im only a banker so i dont have any real clue about the legalities of this I now want to give them a set time period by which the floor must be perfect, otherwise I will use another company and send then the bill.

I guess a quick call to citizens advise on this to see where you stand/ what options are available to you?
Did it come with a garantee at all?
