Winter Projects Started a little help needed
Discussion
I know its a lttle early for the winter projects, but need to get quite a lot done so an early start was in order (plus the tax ran out)
Ok so Where to start
wishbone bushes I have removed all the front wishbones and most of the bushes are shot so its time to replace the lot. The O/S front upper is heavily coroded aswell so will just replace the whole wishbone. I have removed the the bushes from the lower wishbones and will be ready to get the new ones in and was wondering if I should use a little copperslip to help them on there way or maybe even a little heat on the wishbone?
I do have access to a press at work but would prefer to do it at home and since the bushes were fairly straight forward to remove I'm hopeing that getting them back in will be aswell.
next up is the exhaust, at the moment its sleaved but next year I am hoping to do some track days so need to quieten it down a little so with the tack day silencers in place I should be below 105db, I was thinking of putting a couple of cherrybombs in, opinions on this would be great and also iF iremove the pre-cats will this increase the noise a lot and basically putting me back to square one.
Next up, silicone coolant hoses, I have heard that these can be a little tempremental and need retightening at regular intervals, are the pros worth the cons?
Other things on the list are dash, carpets, poss front end respray and general tidy up all round.

Hi Chris
Are you replacing with poly bushes or staying with the rubber ones?
Take a look on the Griffith pages there is an excellent article by Rob on this and details of a tool to extract and reinsert the bushes. I had one made up when I did mine last year and it saved me hours of effort.

I fitted silicon hoses and the peace of mind is well worth it for me. I've not had to tighten mine up but I have had them off an on a few times to replace the radiator and other bits and pieces.

Cheers for the info. I was prepared for a massive battle to get the old bushes out but to be fair they were pretty simple a 17mm socket a sleave for the old bush to push into a bolt through the middle to keep it straight and a large hammer did the trick. 2 minutes for each bush
Chris
edit to say I will be putting the rubber bushes back in

What bushes would you guys go for? powerflex or standard?
also when rebuilding with standard bushes is there a certain angle you need the wishbones in when you do the final tighten? ie so the rubber is relaxed when the shocker is fully down or should I try work out the ride height and set them to that?
cheers guys

Powerflex bundle from Steve Heath to include all the bolts. Just having to do the rear on mine as the diff bush has gone so getting a back end refresh - blast wishbones, upgrade wishbones, POR15 in grey and new bushes, as well as the 3 diff bushes.also when rebuilding with standard bushes is there a certain angle you need the wishbones in when you do the final tighten? ie so the rubber is relaxed when the shocker is fully down or should I try work out the ride height and set them to that?

Also need 2 new engine mounts.
Suspect done whilst 1/4 miling at Shakey a month back.

Just priced up a complete set of origional bushes inc front and rear anti roll bar bushes and all the nylon spacers plus new bolts and its actually cheaper to get the powerflex kit 2 from Steve Heath which also comes with a couple of freebies
So its the powerflex ones.
Was having a look at the front anti roll bar bushes and it looks as though I will need to remove the radiator to get to the bolts

The Powerflex bushes from Steve Heath i could push in by hand
Ditto just push in no problem. Are ytou doing all the wishbones front and rear? If you are doing the rear remember to check the threaded adjuster in the lower rears, make sure its not seized. I rebuilt all the rear wishbones, all new poly bushes, then realised i wanted to get all four wheels properly aligned,so checked the adjusters and they were seized solid. The beauty about poly bushes is as well as popping in they also pop out easily, which is just as well as i had to heat the rear wishbones to silly temps to remove the seized adjusters.

Ok really confused now, was just about to order some powerflex bushes when i was told by Richard at RT Racing NOT to even consider them in a Griff, the griff needs the metalastic bush and thats really the best thing to put back in them. Others i spoke to also said that unless I was doing serious trackdays I would be much better using the old style bush.
So Opinions needed I am planning on doing a couple of trackdays next year but only for a bit of fun and certainley not competatively. Other than that just general driving with hopefully a trip to Le-Mans.

Was looking at this myself.. the rubber offers a bit of damping from the road vibration or so I'm told where as the nylon ones don't.. that said, the nylon ones are a bearing and your arms and shocks will work better as they are not twisting the rubber so a better feal for the road and more responsive... again, so I'm told. I also need to make a decission here for this winter.... will await outcome if not of this post, then see what Chris thinks once done!!..

Well all parts ordered including full set of powerflex bushes, all new bolts, new upper o/s/f arm full silicone hose kit in blue, stainless steel water pipes, smoothbore induction inc heatsheild. So should keep me busy for a while.
John will let you know how I get on with the powerflex bushes.
Still to do this winter if I have the funds and time are carpets, exhaust and dash venear.
