How long is your stick ?

Or more accurately how long is the tube your stick fits in ?

Please could someone (or ideally several of you so as to get an average) measure how far the dip stick tube sticks out of the Block. I rather think mine is sticking out too far and as a result I am running too much oil.

Yes could take the sump off but how would that help me unless I know a similar sort of measurement from the inside. Or are you suggesting I take the sump off with it full and see how full it is ?

Because its the level in the sump that is important, not the length of stick or the tube?

The marks are just below the crank IIRC, the position relative to the crank is what is important, and the consistent measurement across cars I would assume?

Pleased to see you are watching my every post Ben, presumably in the hope that you may gain some snippet, some little nugget of information and be able to beat me next year. No chance, I is going to be quicker than a quick thing.

Or maybe you were attracted to the thread by the word “Stick” I haven’t seen your calibrated fuel level twig, or was it a stick in use recently, perhaps you are looking for a replacement ?

I've got my 3.9 engine on a stand at the mo, its a pre serp but if you think its useful I'll measure whatever you need.

Thank you, yes please. From where the dip stick tube exits the block to the top of the tube would be good.

On my car...
The sleeve for the dipstick protrudes 6 inches from the block.
The dipstick measures 21 3/4 inches from the tip to the shoulder which limits how far into the sleeve it goes.
The dipstick measures 3 inches from the tip to the full mark.

On my car the tube moves about half an inch when poulling the dip stick out!

OK, if you push it back in is it about 6 inces from the block to the top ?
