I just thought I would have a quick check over the tam as I had seen a few spots of oil on the tarmac where it was parked and found a few problems so could do with a bit of advise please.

1. The spots of oil apear to be from the from o/s shock. I have standard shocks at the moment and have seen a few comments and horror stories about ugrade shocks. Do I just replace it like for like or would an upgrade be in order? If so what?

2. Pin hole leak in the rad. I have had to top up with coolant a few times over the summer but nothing serious but it does have a leak so do I a) get it fixed b) get a new standard one or c) get an alu one? Also how easy are they to fit?

3. Rear sceen has come unstitched at the corner, anyone know where I can get this fixed local to Bath?

Thanks for your help.

1. There is a range of different (after market) shocks out there, that are considered better than the standard ones. They vary massively in price depending on what you want to use the car for?

2. I think every one would agree that if you are changing your rad, get the alu one. Not only does it perform better but it is made better hence it will last longer.

P.s. if you fancy a get together/drive one day let me know. I'm only in Bristol

Thanks for the info. re: shocks I use the car for fast road, don't do track stuff yet but I am tempted so may do so in the future.

Happy to meet up for a blat once I have sorted these issues.

Ed,

I've got Nitrons with Eibach springs and an alloy radiator. If you want pricing and where to get them let me know and ff you want a trip out in the Tam to experience the Nitrons, then let me know.

My advice is to go for Nitrons with Eibach springs and an alloy radiator.

I'm not sure of the need of an ally radiator. Spend £100 on a rad refurb/recore.

My 'factory' radiator has been in the car for 24.5k miles and 5.5 years now with now problems. I know the std radiator isn't the toughest looking radiator out there, but it does its job. My car has been used in the most 'uncomfortable' climates and has never been close to overheating. Apart from some of the serious high milers I'll wager my rad has been through one of the toughest times in the T-car crowd. The thermostat will keep the engine in the high 80s at least to ensure the engine is running at the optimum temperature.

Of course mine could fail next week. In which case it will get a std refurb.

Save your money for some suspension improvements.

All IMHO.

Hi Ian,

I was thinking of Nitrons as have seen some problems on here with gaz golds squeeking. I know Nitrons are about a grand but they look to be worth it. Where did you get yours fitted? Alloy rad seem to be about £400 and I can probably fit it myself so will probably go for that. Mine does tend to get a bit hot when sitting in traffic so I think it would help with that too. May take you up on the offer of a trip in yours. You planning on going to the next local meet on the 28th?

Cheers

I have an alloy rad on mine and to be honest there is no real difference from the standard rad. The only reason I went for one is because mine was damaged and it was easyer to get hold of a alloy one. As for shocks by tam is on AVOs and yes like most people I have had problems with them but after a trip to AVO for some small mods they are fine now. By brother runs GAZ GOLD on his Cerb and is happy with the ride now. Like most things in life all depends on Buget.

Thanks for the help guys. I think I will get an alu rad, they look nice too. Anyone fitted one themselves? If so give me some pointers please?

Nitrons seem to be the way to go. I don't want to fit cheaper alternatives just to have problems. I will get them done at the same time as the 12k service wich is due soon.

Cheers, Ed
