As long as there are roads that follow the whole route 'reasonably' well, you'll get a good idea of distance.

It would undoubtably work.

You just click on the measurement tool on the top bar and you can draw a curvy line with multiple points in any measurement - Miles, Nautical Miles, Feet etc

It's a great tool.

Pretty sure it takes account of gradient as well (not that this will be an issue for the OP!).
