Hi porsche fans,
I've just entered the world of porsche ownership with a 2.5 boxster and have a couple of questions for you:

1. Who knows of any independent specialists in the Northampton area? I know this has been done before with suggestions of somewhere in Bicester. Are there any others in the area?

2. The car needs a wheel bearing - hence the above question. Don't worry, I knew before buying! The OPC I spoke to before purchase suggested that this is not uncommon on a Boxster. Any comments or prices for replacement? The car's a '99 with 45,000 miles btw.

Thanks

Arlington OPC used to be in Northampton.

Otherwise there are plenty of Porsche specialists near Bicester etc. It is often worth travelling for good service.

Wheel bearings are cheap and simple, relatively. Most of the hassle is fitting them, they aren't v expensive. Expect quite a small bill.

Thanks for the reply.

There's a new OPC in Towcester (Silverstone) which is close enough, unconnected with the old Arlington centre in Northampton - it's a Sytner company I believe.

Just don't fancy paying OPC labour rates for simple stuff like bearings, brakes etc. Agree about travelling for good service, so a trip to Bicester may be on the cards...

Although unconnected with Arlington, I believe some of the mechanics moved across to the new operation. As far as costs are concerned have you got an all in quote from the OPC?

DAZ

Edited to say yes Porsche Silverstone is a Sytner Group garage.

No quote from Silverstone, but I did get an estimate from the OPC used by the previous owner - approx 220 for a front and 'about double that' for a rear. A bit steep?

You'll have to excuse my ignorance, but I'm having trouble diagnosing it front or rear (it's the offside though). My excuse is that you sit fairly centrally in the wheelbase making you equidistant from both. Or I'm just deaf...

Not a problem though as it should be easy to tell when it's on the ramps.
