Piss on the belt . Thats what my uncle used to do in 1909 with his belt driven motor cycle . Trouble is he had to do it in gear with the engine running then jump on quick when it gripped ; a bit messy . Thats why he wore goggles .

Anyway if that doesn't work take the belt off and try turning the pulleys to the alternator and water pump to make sure they are free , or in the case of the air con ditto . Do you have plenty left on the end of the adjuster so you are not tightening against the end of its range rather than tightening the belt ?

You should be able to fix it by adjustment but failing that you can get 'Belt Dressing' in an aerosol which may help.

cheers boys . i have adjusted the belt again and tired belt dressing, could the pullys be worn and to polished? It only seems to do it when the engine is up to running tempature. Can you still get the old V fan belts without the grooves?

Your pulleys might be glazed. Remove the belt and sand down all the pulleys with a fine grit and reinstall.

You can get belts without the grooves .The grooved ones are best for tight radius pulleys . Engineering suppliers keep belts and they measure your old one on a special jig . They may not be long life . Just changed the 3 belts on my 120,000 mile Land Cruiser . They were the originals and still had life left . Have you checked all the pulleys are free ? How do you know they are slipping ? Squeel?
Are the belts wide enough and not bottoming in their V's.?
