Found maggots......

Today in my local large supermarket pet food isle. Specifically under a tray of cat food i had picked up off the shelf. The bottom of it had split, there was loads of them, only very very small, must of been quite fresh!
I told one of the employees who was stacking the shelf at the end of the isle, she looked horrified, picked the whole box up and scurried off with it quickly. The smell was vile.
Obviously i wont name the store.
A few people here at work think i should write and complain, i cant see it achieving anything myself what does ph think?

It's very possible, indeed likely that the case of food was delivered with the eggs already laid on the split can/carton. A couple of days later, maggots will appear, and the smell would start.
Judging by the womans reaction, it doesn't sound commonplace at the store, and as such I'd let it slide.

I worked for both Somerfields and Sainsburys for a while.
It happens a lot, can gets split, no-one notices, flies find it = maggots. Worst smell was a tin of sweetcorn...
You won't achieve much by complaining you would most probably get a voucher, but do you really feel you need compensating?
