Is that the Chardonnay or the Sauvignon Blanc? I thought the SB was £8?

Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc always commands a premium over any other variatal - I think it's the Cloudy Bay influence.

Thats funny! I assumed he was talking about the Sauvignon! I never but the Chardonnay! Cloudy bay is good stuff though (still a lot cheaper than some French stuff) there Te Koko is excellent!

Jackson is on offer in Waitrose, that's a very nice SB.

£6.99 instead of 9.99.

No problem. And the Chardonnay is damn good too and worth every penny of £6 IMO.

If you enjoy the Oyster Bay wines try Montana. Also wine of Marlborough and can be good value and tasty.

I love Cloudy Bay but at £17 a bottle, whilst cheaper than top-flight Sancerre, is probably a little rich for mid-week drinking!

For some fun: we visited Marlborough a few years back. (2001!!)

Montana Winery and visitor centre.

Fromm Winery. We visited as we knew the owners.

Visitor Centre all seemed excellent.

The Missus refuses to let go of her glass despite taking photographs...

We went for a walk up into the Wither Hills above Marlborough. You can see it's a large flat, coastal area with hills on each side. Unusually the vineyards are all on the flat!

A better look at the Vineyards from above.

We got to the top of one of the foothills of the Wither Hills where they had a scenic viewpoint. From here you can tell that the area is coastal - the camera is not only pointing at the wife's posterior - but also at the coast.

It's a great area to visit for both some enjoyable light hillwalking and superb wines. By now most of the names are familiar to British wine consumers but, at least in 2001, there were still little discoveries to be made.

Include it in any tour of the South Island. You won't regret it.

Cloudy Bay appears to be popping up everywhere at the moment, it may be £17 at Laithwaites etc but it is being sold by Costco and Tesco at £11. It may not be as special as it was back in the late 80s, but at that price it looks too good to miss.

Montana SB is good, I prefer the Villa Maria SB, though.

Have to agree with you, and I'll take the Villa Maria Reserve SB over Cloudy Bay.

There are many different styles of Marlborough SB and I've been a fan of many of them for years.

Two that I've been drinking alot of over the last 1-2 years are Tinpot Hut and Delta Vineyards.

The tinpot is very fruity. It's like drinking a lovely fruit juice.

The delta is a bit more subtle.

Both worth a try imo. Not Cloudy Bay price level, but am sure can be got for £10 per bottle.
