Inspire me! What should I make for dinner tonight?
Discussion
As the title says, what should I cook for the Mrs. tonight?
Recently we've had a lot of wintery food such as stews, casseroles and the like and of course, lot's of home-made Indian. I've also made a lot of pasta dishes.
I fancy a bit of a change, and strangely have a hankering for mash...
So over to you...

Get yourself a cheap, small pork joint. Roast as you would a Sunday dinner after rubbing some salt into the skin in a hot oven.
Find a couple of tatty old apples lying around, cook them down in some butter with a pinch of salt, pinch of cinnamon, until they become a soft mush with any liquid boiled off.
Make mash with lots of butter, splash of milk, properly seasoned and a spot of french wholegrain mustard.
Fry off a diced onion. Add and boil down some cider with a chicken stock cube and another spot of the mustard. You're allowed to thicken with some gravy granules if you like, or be more classical and throw in a some beurre manie. -Lump of flour and butter mashed together.
Serve a couple of chunky slices of the pork with a nice piece of crackling and dollop of apple sauce on top, the mash and sauce, and some cabbage/broccoli/green beans whatever. Can be done with pork chops too.
Sounds a bit dull/traditional meat & 2 veg, but carefully done, this tastes fantastic. You can put the meat in the oven and forget about it for a while, the rest of it takes no more than 25 mins to prepare with a bit of help/multitasking.

Sounds yummy, but am doing belly pork for the folks on Sunday - will try the apple sauce with cinnamon though Find a couple of tatty old apples lying around, cook them down in some butter with a pinch of salt, pinch of cinnamon, until they become a soft mush with any liquid boiled off.

I think everything 'Gamey' is in season right now, so a pie with mash is a good plan.
If you want an alternative, play the "what's cheapest" game in the meat aisle- we ended up with pork ribs last time, and I'd not eaten them in years.
