"I'm not a racist. I just don't believe in mixing the races that way," Bardwell told the Associated Press on Thursday. "I have piles and piles of black friends. They come to my home, I marry them, they use my bathroom. I treat them just like everyone else."
Oh dear. This is 2009 or 1899?

They went down the street and got married at another office. That twunt will have to resign by the end of the week. If one is familiar with the local area he works for, they would understand. He is not indicative of the whole state....much like comparing, say, Liverpool to Kent. hehe

What do you expect in the deep south? Lets get this in proportion, he's on the border of Louisiana and Mississippi. Social advancement is marrying your sister.

And maybe he has a point - that most interracial couples don't survive and that their offspring have a very hard time. I can't think of a worse place to consider an interracial marriage frankly.

Watch it TM, in Florida, you are technically "farther south". Other than that, you are about right concerning the border area. hehe

Ah, technically Florida isn't deep south but is 'southern'. However, the panhandle, also known as Lower Alabama can be considered deep south. We're redneck by association.

And the ultimate insult is that Florida wanted to sell the panhandle to Alabama, and Alabama didn't want it! I mean, talk about the red headed step child!

You know you are becoming 'southern' when you are looking forward to Talladega at the end of the month wink

Louisiana elected an Indian-origin governor. Piyush "Bobby" Jindal.

It's my strong suspicion that both the most ardent, and the most common racism in the USA is directed primarily at black people.... as opposed to Indians/pakistanis/Far Eastern etc.. people

Not only an idiot for his views but to have such a lack of judgement to make those views public.

So all we need to do is write to the interracial couples in the Deep South, pointing out the facts of the matter as you've outlined above, and they'll fall out of love and keep to their own in future.

Thats pretty easy then. Whats next on the agenda? Ahh Gaza!

Well, seeing that we also have many black elected officials, many from majority white districts, it could be that this idiot is not indicative of the majority of the state. Perhaps we are no more racist than (insert an English locality). Is that a possibility?

What do you actually know about Liverpool (a city incidentally) or Kent (a county) honestly?
About as much as I know about Louisiana in all likelyhood.

Over here I'd like to think that someone displaying such idiocy would be highly unlikely to find themselves in a position with the power to actually affect other people's lives.
I could be wrong though, the BNP seem to be gaining votes amongst the knuckledraggers and plain nasty.

You mean like Nazir Ahmed of the house of Lords or Jacqui Smith?
