I have been reading with increasing anger and frustration all of the news papers and indeed on car websites such as this one threads and stories regarding climate change and the cars apparent devilment in all this.

Does anyone on here think it would be remotely possible to set up a legitimate 'pro-car' group to try and show the other side of the climate change coin??

There are loads of anti-car lobby groups out there and plenty of ill-informed government ministers who clearly know nothing, very little or merely jump on the band wagon of climate change.

We all come onto these forums with plenty to say (myself included) but is there not a way of getting a proper informed arguement out to the masses telling them that climate change is not what the government is trying to make it out to be.

I'd say that there is a pretty good cross section of the British public on here and we all seem to be singing the same tune, whenever im down the pub with my friends we all seem to be singing the same tune........i.e that climate change is total b*ll*x!! What im getting at is that if so many of us think the same thing why arent we lobbying the government to change the way they do things??

Why are there not public demonstrations saying we dont want all these trumped up 'green policies'.

Im not sure what else to say on the subject really but we all have a voice and the government ultimately answers to the public so its about time we used it and tried to get a few of the things we actually want.

So if anyone on here is clever enough and savvy enough to think of way we can get this going im all ears (cos frankly i wouldnt know where to start myself. lol).

Anyway thank you for reading this idea/rant all comments welcome. biggrin

I agree with that website wholeheartedly- all the pressure peed me off so much- I moved to the USA- where it is a motoring nirvanna for those who wish to use old cars.
Long live conformism, socialism and rampant consumerism-long live Europe! biggrinshoot

To the OP. Not sure that describing climate change as "total bks" will be the best way to convince anyone that you have sound evidence to back up your claims. Any chance you can expand on this a little bit more with some scientific facts to support your case? Or should I stop holding my breath now?

To MonkeyLegend,

that is a fair point, i didnt add all the level of detail as it would have made for a hell of a long post. But to take your point on board to a certain extent there was a channel 4 documentary called The Great Global Warming Swindle. Here is the link and see if your convinced as i was. http://www.channel4.com/science/microsites/G/great...

The problem is, that although the OP will find a proportion of the population are sympathetic to his cause, there is a reason no major political party supports rampant burning of fossil fuels and emissions anarchy. It's a dumb idea.

I don't subscribe to C02 emissions being directly linked to sea-level rise, it's an over-simplistic conclusion to a very complex problem. But the vast majority of scientists and people with brains between their ears will tell you that "pollution is bad, m'kay?" and its almost impossible to come to any other conclusion unless you ignore some pretty salient facts.

People like Gordon Brown like to hijack these facts to push through whatever agenda is sat on their desk at the time, and it cheapens the whole issue. On the other side of the coin, commercial organisations also hijack the facts to sell consumer products. I heard this on the radio the other day "Energy saving light bulbs produce less CO2 than ordinary lightbulbs." Bullst. Lightbulbs produce no CO2 energy saving or otherwise!

The other one is "A Toyota Prius is an environmentally friendly car." Wrong! At best, it's less environmentally unfriendly, but it's certainly not GOOD for the environment. Saying it is makes you sound like an idiot.

Anyone that can only tell half the story leaves themselves open to criticism, so don't put yourself in that position.

Finally, if you want the government off your back about CO2 emissions, maybe the smartest thing you can do is to get on THEIR back about stopping deforestation the world over. As long as the world's rainforests are still standing, you've got a nice big carbon-sink to undo a lot of the damage caused by the internal combustion engine and other polluters.

I think they did a test on Top Gear, where they drove an M3 around their circuit at a certain speed, and then drove the prius around at the same speed, the Prius got less MPG then the Beemer, I don't know if that has anything to do with the pollution produced though.

You really need to be careful when quoting anything from TG.
They have never done a 'Test' in all the years theyv'e been broadcasting.
Remember that the Prius V BMW test involved the Prius screaming around dunsfold an max revs with the BMW pottering along behind it just off tickover. Of course the Beemer was 'More Economical'.

Stunts like that don't really help the 'Car culture' cause, especially when they are refered to as 'factual evidence' to support what we're saying.

However, the news is not all bad.
The Times motoring section did do a proper test and came up with some interesting and quotable results.
