As the Grif (currently standard 500 spec) will be 10 years old in 2010, what would everyone suggest as a list of upgrades to a budget of say 10K for fast road/ occasional track day use?

My initial thoughts are:

Power SC conversion and intercooler
Nitrons, springs and geo set-up
Front 16 inch Estorils and brake disc/ pad upgrade.
Roll bar

Would welcome your suggestions.................

Very nice list cool sounds vaguely familiar wink

That list will set you back £10k in parts alone, so you'll need to do all your own spanner work to keep in budget thumbup

For God's sake don't. Enjoy your Griff as it is for what it is and spend your spare £10k elsewhere.

new dampers

ali rad

brake upgrades

sports exhaust

but NO SUPERCHARGER (unless you buy a new engine to fit it to) IMHO it will blow something in your 10 year engine and you will regret it

On what grounds do you say this? As far as I can recall, there are quite a lot of charged cars now and as far as I know, no problems in many thousands of miles. Myself included. What exactly do you think will 'blow'?

i do not wish to start an extended row with regards to SC any tvr engine....but a friend who drives out with us SC"d a 4 litre tvr and spent a fortune on the kit and rebuilds afterwards

i am sure he was unlucky...but in MY HUMBLE OPINION i do not think i would put a supercharger on a engine that had not had one fitted from new or refurb

if yours has worked then i am happy for you

regards

To be fair, If the OP hasn't upgraded his suspension or brakes since purchasing his P&J, I'd hazard a guess, that he hasn't explored the FULL potential of what he already has smile(no offence to the op intended)...To be honest I hadn't really found the limits of what mine "could" do in the right hands, before I stuck a blower on it, let alone after!yikes
Put some decent shocks on and get the suspension geo setup properly, (oh and some decent brakes pads/discs and braided hoses) get out on track and it will easily blow your socks off just how impressive these little beauties really are with just a healthy 300bhp!

What are you talking about?? You can't have too much!
If I'm honest, 400bhp doesn't feel overly powerful any more. I'd happily add another 100+ if I could. I agree with Hamish though, set up properly they are remakably good handling cars.

In response to the comment above, I doubt very much that the sc caused the problem. If the engine was healthy and the fueling set up correctly, There should be very minimal chance of any problems. SC power state very clearly that the engine should be checked and verified healthy before adding the kit. Of course your friend may have been unlucky and had a failure, but that shouldn't put people off the kit, the problem rate is low and the benefit huge. Combined with proper brakes and shocks, I think it constitutes the best upgrade you can do!

Dunno never done a drag strip, was hoping to go to the Grudge match but car let me down frown

Did try a standing start with a mate in the passenger seat with a stop watch. He recorded a 3.8 sec 0-60 indicated on my (TADC) duff speedo with way to much wheel spin on the start...Only did one run as said mate refused to do again frown said he'd been in some fast cars, but that was well out of his comfort zoneyikes..lol
so i reckon its potential is low 3's
