This might sound a daft question but I am looking at buying my first games console since my PS1. I am looking at just a 120Gb PS3 slim - is this all I need as I know other hard drive sizes are available? Also, what other pointers do any of you have and, any good deals around at the moment? Tesco are doing them for £249.99 including 2 games (which I would trade in at Game for what I really want) and I would get 10% off that aswell.

Oh, and it is a PS3 I have settled on, not an XBox so no arguments in that arena thanks!

Thanks in advance.

Game are selling the slim with a 250gb hard drive and two games for around 289 IIRC

Only place I've seen the new one with the 250gb drive fitted. The 120gb is the same price as tesco's and also includes games.

PS3 slims have sole 40,000 units in the first week of sale!

You have to get MW2 when it is out but for now Uncharted 2 is a must have. I know a few xbox guys who have gone out and bought a PS3 just for this game. It really is that good.

True, but I'd recommend buying the first one beforehand.

I've just boughtthis morning a new PS3 from Game with Uncharted 2 and Tiger Woods 2010 - all for £284.99. Uncharted 2 was the reason I bought the PS3 as I already have a 360 and it's amazing!

It's a very good package for £285!

So long as you have an HD telly make sure you get an HDMI cable too. Cheap ones will do, don't get ripped off with £50 ones!

I picked one up at Blockbusters for £250 with some Blu ray movies. The great thing is you also get one months unlimited game rentals, some games have been returned within hours of renting hehe

I got mine about a week after they came out from Game, for £285 with Tiger Woods 2010, GTA IV and GT5 Prologue. However, I've only turned it on twice and haven't even played GTA IV yet. Evidence that it might have been a bit of a whim purchase for me...

Last console I owned was a PS1 and the graphics have certainly moved on a bit!

Is it correct that PS3s cannot play PS2 and 1s games?

Pretty sure that PS1 games can be played but if you've just spent £300 on a console would you ever play PS1 games? I know I wouldn't.

I don't think so. The original PS3 could play PS2 games but the second generation PS3 couldn't. I assume is the same for the newest PS3 as well

PS2 games don't work on any of the more recent PS3s.

Many PS1 games do work on the PS3 but some don't, such as Ape Escape. And why would you not want to play something quite so joyful as that?

Seems a bit daft that the newest PlayStation is not backward compatible.
