Does anyone no where the huge storage place is in the US where they stockpiled all the decomissioned jets that was featured on a really old Jeremy Clarkson programme once?

Is that the one you can see from the highway between Bakersfield and LV? That was brilliant - unfortunately couldn't get any decent photos while driving.

Lets say China comes marching over the hill tomorrow, could they actually recomission all those jets if they needed them?

I would say they are just 'Mothballed' so can be put back into service at short notice if needed.

China would be more likely to buy a few jets given that scenario.

48 hours IIRC to commission each one.

Perhaps some but by no means all.

Many are completely time expired and have been part stripped for spares. That is the facility's main function - to provide spares for the remaining aircraft still in service.

Sometimes old airframes are reactivated for reinstatement into service - or sale to a foreign customer.

Not to mention some will be used as drone's for testing weapons. When the F-22 was under-going Air-Air tests lots of F4's , F14's , F15's etc.... were being shot out of the sky. Sad ending if you ask me

Nismo, do you know of any videos of this? Would love to see them! I remember watching a video of one of the drones from Llanbedr on the West Coast of North Wales near Barmouth being shot at with a sidewinder from a Harrier out to see. Sad, but looks hugely good fun! smile

Most clips you see in aircraft documentaries showing aircraft being shot down by missiles are usually drones being destroyed in missile tests.

They use F-4's but not F-14 & F-15's as drones. The F-15's themselves also use the F-4 drones as targets.
